don't know that I should give it away but here's the top ten from the giant list I've been working on for the better part of two years now: 1. Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
2. King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
3. Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon
4. Yes - Close To The Edge
5. Frank Zappa - Hot Rats
6. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
7. Strawbs - Grave New World
8. Frank Zappa - We're Only in It for the Money
9. Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Tarkus
10. Strawbs - Hero and Heroine
now, I know this looks like a lot of doubling in the top ten already but my list is hardly near completion. It has already gone from being a top 100 list (to replace a poor one I had made on Last FM) to 250, then 500, and it looks like my list could end up something like a top 750 list if I ever actually put it out. I think that any of my top four albums could easy stake claim to the top spot by the way so there isn't a big gap between any of those.

I'm going to only do one album per artist just so it's not just the VdGG and Mars Volta's respected discographies.
1. Van der Graaf Generator-Pawn Hearts
2. The Mars Volta-Frances the Mute
after these two the order starts becoming unclear, so the last eight aren't really in order
3. Frank Zappa-hard to choose from his discography, but I'll go with Absolutely Free right now
4. Godspeed You! Black Emperor- F # A # Infinity
5. Giant Squid-Metridium Field
6. Mastodon-Leviathan
7. Alice in Chains-Dirt
8. Yann Tiersen- C'etait Ici
9. The Cure-Disintegration
10. King Crimson-again hard to choose, but for now I'll go with Larks' Tongues in Aspic
some others that could be on at any time
Pain Killer-Execution Ground
Rush-once again a tough choice but my overall favourite is probably Hemispheres, though lately i've been digging Vapor Trails, which I find quite underrated
Mr. Bungle-s/t
Faith No More-The Real Thing
AFI-Black Sails in the Sunset (probably no fans of that here)
Opeth-Morningrise
Iron Maiden-Brave New World
Naked City-s/t
Coheed and Cambria-In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3
Explosions in the Sky-All of a Sudden I miss Everyone
Tool-Aenima
Yes-Relayer
ELP-Tarkus
Pink Floyd-Wish You Were Here
Peter Hammill-In Camera
Clutch-Robot Hive/Exodus
Ayreon-The Human Equation
Wolves in the Throne Room-Two Hunters
Unexpect-In a Flesh Aquarium
Beastie Boys-Liscened to ill
Deep Purple-Made in Japan
Bad Religion-Generator
Jethro Tull-Aqualung
Sonic Youth-Daydream Nation
Chicago-Chicago Transit Authority
Miles Davis-Bitches Brew
John Zorn-Six Litanies for Heliogabalus
I'll stop there because I'm way beyond a top ten. Again, nothing's really definite beyond the first two al bums on the list. It's not even close to all being prog, but hey, good non prog music is existant and in abundance (just don't tell some people)

Dude ... a "best of" album? That's lame, especially on a prog website.
