Of course we accept your approach. We're just pointing out a differing way to look at an album and making conversation, really... though your approach is nonsensical! ![]() |

A classic example of that is the Neanderthal section in Tubular Bells - many may like it - I don't, but even if the facility to skip it existed, I still wouldn't.
Die Eier von Satan is a great track - Tool are not a po-faced "serious" band - there's always been a streak of sarcastic humour in their music (especially on Ænema - which is dedicated to Bill Hicks after all) and I see Die Eier von Satan as a fine lampoon of the right-wing Martial Industrial music of bands like Von Thronstahl and Death In June.
BE is a strange album anyway - there are tracks on there I don't like much, but Nauticus isn't one of them - I didn't like Vocari Dei at first, but in context of the whole album it works - the playlette at the beginning of Dea Pecuniae annoying, but the track itself is good... It is amusing that an album about human existence and god is in itself flawed - a little like Persian carpets that have deliberate errors to show that no one can be perfect except god (or that god might regard a human work of art without imperfection as hubris)

Oh Caroline was once voted to have the best non-cliched Mellotron use - probably concur, therefore near-essential. Personally Free-from Guitar ( ex. CTA) Chicago - with a programmable CD player, which I can programme that out, then I can happily sit through the rest of the album on repeat play All the acapella tunes on Joni Mitchell's Shadows & Light - although I love the Persuasions elsewhere (i.e their Zappa tributealbum). The Clap (ex. The Yes Album) seemed out of context with the rest of the tunes for me More Fool Me (ex. Genesis's Selling England) |

Die eier von satan is genius for me, it's one of that songs that I love to listen at max volume ![]() And BE is just the same experience for me, very much mixed feelings... Dae Pecuniae is still my skip track of this album... Never caught it. I used to like Diffidentia, but after some time it appeared too flat for me. Out of these, the album flows very well for me |

Of course I'm not expecting everyone to agree - it's a matter of taste ![]() I think music is my entertainment, and I don't feel like I owe anyone to listen to anything. And if there's 2 annoying minutes in a middle of a great song I'll fast forward through it. Like the ambient parts on FTM. I know some people like them, but for me they interrupt the flow of an otherwise masterpiece so what the hell - i'm not a masochist right? I don't skip songs on albums. If I listen to an album I listen to the whole thing...warts and all. Although, I don't find More Fool Me to be such a wart on the album, although I've grown a bit tired of I Know What I Like. I still don't skip it. I don't even skip It from The Lamb which would be easy to do since it's the last song.

I don't think I know what i like is a bad song,just a bit annoying at times(for phil's voice)and maybe out of place.And I simply don't understand this anthologic hatred towards More fool me.It's just a harmless acoustic song,and if it's really that bad,well,it's short lenghted ![]() |

I guess it's okay for what it is but it would be much more in place on Invisible Touch or a Collins solo album... both of which are pretty good by pop standards but it stands out on SEBTP as being noticeably below the level of everything else. I Know What I like isn't even as good of a pop song, I don't really like the chorus and once again, it stands out as being much weaker the rest of the material, plus I think it doesn't fit the mood too well since it's a bit cheery for an otherwise fairly dark themed album. In other words, they're good songs by themselves but not good enough for SEBTP. ![]() Edited by The Miracle - February 16 2009 at 17:28 |

I actually like time table better than can-utility...which has always been my least fav on foxtrot. although, its picked up a bit since i heard the remix. still it doesn't compare to the first three on side 1 or the whole of side 2.

Actually, the idea that you owe it to an artist to listen to an album in its entirety makes me wonder if those advocates would insist on listening to their works in order? Are you compelled to listen to the infamous difficult second album? Would they feel compelled to listen to Tin Drum which even Mr Bowie seems to be pretty embarrassed about? How far does this fealty extend? Are you compelled to buy albums into the artist's inevitable long slow descent into mediocrity?
Rather reminds me of Paul Weller doing an In Concert on the Beeb in his Style Council days, who being a little tetchy at the crowd not showing due reverence in between songs said "I need absolute silence for this number." I'm trying to remember which album was produced without bands between tracks to try and ensure that people didn't skip tracks. Edited by Spenny - February 16 2009 at 19:50 |

You did not get my drift at all. When I said you "owe" it to the artist, I meant it this way: For me an album is like a symphony by a classical composer, with the tracks being the movements of it. Now a symphony is considered to be a whole work of art; you won't find an orchestra playing the first movement of Beethoven's 5th, and I would always listen to it as a whole. It is meant to be that way and only makes sense that way. So I also listen to all the movements of a "modern symphony". If some parts of the symphony are bad, then that says something about the symphony, and I will certainly not hear it very often. But I WON'T skip those weak parts. If I do something I do it 100%. It may sound strange to you, but I would feel worse after having listened to only the "good" tracks of an album than after having listened to it in the whole. You may not understand this attitude, but I frankly don't give a damn; I don''t understand yours either and. By the way: What would you have done in the days of vinyl? Go and run to lift the needle so you won't have to hear the "weak" track? Record all your albums on tape, skipping those weak tracks for the recording (but then why did you buy the album in the first place)? |

I don't do this a lot, but have done so in the past. Back in the 70's, I absolutely hated the eerie, squeely middle part of Pink Floyd's 'Echoes', so I made a cassette version with that part clipped out. "Have You Seen Junior's Grades?" also got chopped from a VH song. Most recently, the bridge in "Don't Go" from Yes' Magnification CD was sent through MP3 Edit. I like the song ok, but could not stand, stand, stand the following part, which no longer exists in my edit: " ![]() ![]() None of this always working late The porter took him to his room; he headed for the bar To get another drink She got a phone call saying her lover had ran away Just another phone call, another bad day She packed her keys got out of town Stole her best friend's car Promised he would bring it back That's what friends are for..." |

hm, I am quite sure a lot of people skip the second part of"Moonchild". they miss something important though: the end of "Moonchild" has a little theme which perfectly prepares for the following "In the Court of the Crimson King"; they kind of segue into each other. it is one of the most superb segues of all time
