I enjoy the second part of "Moonchild", and yes, it does segue perfectly into "In the Court..." Still, I do found myself skipping over a song occasionally usually because I can't wait for the following tune. Here are a few examples.
Who Dunnit - Genesis
Cans and Brahms - Yes
Bitches Crystal - ELP
Dig Me - King Crimson
Emotion Detector - Rush

[QUOTE=Spenny] Actually, the idea that you owe it to an artist to listen to an album in its entirety makes me wonder if those advocates would insist on listening to their works in order? Are you compelled to listen to the infamous difficult second album? Would they feel compelled to listen to Tin Drum which even Mr Bowie seems to be pretty embarrassed about? How far does this fealty extend? Are you compelled to buy albums into the artist's inevitable long slow descent into mediocrity? Rather reminds me of Paul Weller doing an In Concert on the Beeb in his Style Council days, who being a little tetchy at the crowd not showing due reverence in between songs said "I need absolute silence for this number." I'm trying to remember which album was produced without bands between tracks to try and ensure that people didn't skip tracks. [/QUOTE
Think Bowie's bete noir was Tin Machine and Tin Drum was by Japan - both sound a bit tinny to me tho

It's not that I can't find worth in anything, it's just that I can't find worth in enough.

I liked Bowie's Tin Machine a lot. definitely a lot better than his usual stuff, with a few exceptions, mostly some of his late 70s albums, especially "Lodger"

I simply can't understand why any of those tracks are skip-worthy! O Caroline is just plain lovely, Spiritual might be the weakest on Attahk but it's still got lots going for it and Masks is just... HOW COULD YOU?
Personally I try not to skip tracks unless they're really dreadful and out of place amongst the rest of an album. If I'm going to listen to an album I'll listen to it warts n' all!

For years I've been listening to Moonchild as a whole trying to figure out the hidden depth in it, but recently I've come to admit that everything past the 3 minute mark is garbage. Period. And I've come to discover that the whole album flows so much better and is so much more enjoyanle that way.

no wonder you don't like it with that approach. it is as if you tried being mother and child in one, trying to force the kid to eat its spinach. why didn't you just relax and let the music flow? believe me, the music is very enjoyable that way. I absolutely enjoy it in the whole. oh, and I almost forgot to mention: period

Good grief...
I'm absolutely stunned...
not only is it my favourite track on PW, but it probably makes my top 5 Rush tracks from the 80's..
how different we are...

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Yes, we are different, but I skip because of impatience, not necessarily because the song I skip is bad. In the case of skipping "Emotion Detector", I can't wait to get to "Mystic Rhythms".

Also - if I'm in the car and have something heavy cranked then a slow
song in the middle is no good, for that reason I've skipped...
Unicorn - Gojira

Prince, how can this be? I thought for sure at least 2 BOC songs would be on that list, they are on mine. 1) Let Go -BOC 2) Light Years Of Love - BOC 3) Moonchild - Crimson 4) Second Half of Physical Graffiti - Zeppelin 5) Kids Gloves/Red Lenses - rush

I don't skip any track from any album (even if I don't like it, which is almost impossible because I like 99% of the songs I listen to)

<steels himself for a good ole flaming>
1. Moonchild by King Crimson from ITCOTCK, I am not a fan at all with this type of kanoodling improv slice of meandering experimentation. bring on title track or Epitath
2. House with no Door from VDGG - boring PH introspection. I cant wait to get to War Room and Pioneers over C.
3. The over long drum solo on IB's Inn a Gadda da vida. Too dull and contrived for my tastes.
4. The drum solo on Spocks Beards Live - too long and once heard is enough the drum solo on Rush's All the worlds a stage too for that matter - in fact all flaming drum solos. period!
5. Jeremy Bender on ELPs Tarkus. - as bad as it gets. for that matter I could skip all the songs on ELPs Love Beach except for the instrumental on side 2.
in all honesty skipping tracks is not one of my past times - i usually listen to all tracks but these are slight exceptions due to the nature of the tracks.

You skip "House with no Door? Incredible! As to "Moonchild": You are not the only one, though I personally never understood what people hate about that track. There is definitely no "noodling" going on in it. I always see the moonchild prancing merrily around on a meadow which is basked in silvery moonlight during the part which some people regard as "noodling".
