Topic: The Stupid Stereotype Thread Posted: April 23 2009 at 00:24 |
I created this because this is a multinational forum, and I'm sure we all have misconceptions about each other. So basically, use this thread to debunk stereotypes about where you live or ask others about stereotypes in their neck of the woods.
For example-
Debunking: I live in Alabama in the US, but I do not own a gun, and I'm not a product of incestuous relations. In fact, I don't know anyone who is. Additionally, my roomie owns the most guns of anyone I know and he's from Illinois.
Question for you Brits: Do you guys really drink tea as much as portrayed in the US media/tv?

I'm from Canada, eh? Let's go hunting for moose, but make sure we're back to the igloo in time or else we won't be able to cook our seal blubber and the hockey team will get mad because if we don't bring that we also forgot the beer! Aw jeeze, eh!?

I'm Finnish and I'm not a polar bear.
I'm Atlantean and I only have two eyes.

I grew up in North Carolina, and I drink lots of beer out of the can, don't mind that people smoke, and think Jesse Helms could have been our savior.
Oh wait...damn...

I'm from England and I drink copious amounts of tea.
Oh, wait, this was supposed to debunk stereotypes.
In that case, I'm American and I can actually make tea.

I have nothing to do with the Mafia, but I love pasta and pizza (the latter may actually be my favourite food of all) ...

I'm from Minnesota. We don't all talk like in the movie Fargo. We're not buried in snow year round, only 6 months of the year.
As a white male, I don't run the world. As an American, I'm not an evil imperialist. Nor are 99.9% of us.

If you love cats, please adopt an older cat. They've been in a cage far too long, and they long for a home.

hang on...
Population of USA = 306,274,000
0.1% of 306,274,000 = 306,274

I'm Danish with no foreign ancestry as far as I can track my family but I look
more Spanish or Italian... in facial features, I'm not particularly dark-skinned and have blue eyes but I've been mistaken for an Israeli
once.

It's true. My dad had a friend come round. He drank 12 cups of tea over the day.
