^Its better for people who thinks everything good is made in UK or Northamerica, but not for people who knows better.

Except that my comment would have been far more insulting, this sums up the essence of what I was going to write.

Crap list. Classic Rock readers shouldn't be allowed to have a say a about genres they have no knowledge about. Newbies might believe this list is the "truth". Even PA's list is better than this.

WHERE IS GENTLE GIANT?!Shocked
That said, I think Duke deserves it's place in the list as a brilliant combination of prog and pop.

The Magazine is exactly right here ! Stop bashing Systematic Chaos or you will have to deal with me !! Wink

I'm more worried about the absence of our no.8: Animals by Pink Floyd. Maybe these people were mixing it up with The Wall ? Big smile

Yes a good list! ,but a big omission for Anglagard Hybris, that could be in the top 10.

I do find the lack of Script an odd one with the no of Marillion in the list.  And as a lot have said 'Duke' ? Its possibly due to the average age of the voters?

I do love 'Going for the One' though so that pleased me.  My favourite Yes album - Is that wrong?

The vast majority of purchasers/readership is in the UK, so it's hardly surprising that there is an English bias. It's a shame, but not surprising.

GFTO is a mighty LP, and I'm overjoyed at its inclusion. I will also defend Duke to the hilt. The perfect fusion between prog and pop of all time and the album that introduced a whole new generation to prog rock - it was so popular, that many went out and brought earlier albums by the band.

Or have they purposely limited themselves to the U.K. and its former colonies?

I think their list is a lot closer than ours to what I think.

There are some very odd choices (Systematic Chaos, Duke should never be in the list in a million years) and a few I would disagree with (Ever, Dark Matter and The Seventh House are IMO much better than The Wake) but they have done a pretty fair job.

My God, they say Systematic Chaos (#20?!) is better than Scenes From A Memory, don't they? I'm sure the people from CR haven't the faintest idea of what Dream Theater are...
Though, I've been purchasing CR magazine since it was issued for the first time in Russia - April 2001 (if I'm not mistaken).

I am led to wonder why they put back lots of Porcupine Tree stuff - their albums gained rather low score in this list. It seems that PT is the one Prog band CR knows of and writes about monthly (according to the latest issues PT deserved lots of praise by CR staff).

P.S. Thanks God, no Zep here. Suppose it's the first CR Top-50 where there are no Zep albums presented as absolute winners.

43. Genesis - Duke

Yeah... and Rush's Snakes and Arrows. ConfusedLOLWink

I expected much worse as well, it is nice that they're not too far off from this site's top fifty. Especially similar with the top ten... wow. Yay for classic rock magazine, though I do prefer ours a bit more.

I'm really surprised at Sakes & Arrows being on that list even more then the other two mentioned above. A pretty good list though.

But what about...

Not a bad list, although I'm scratching my head as to why "Duke" is on there.

I agree with the above poster though, Gentle Giant would have been a good addition. Also, rather than adding several albums by an artist, I think one or two per artist would have been better and could have allowed the addition of some other artists.

About 10 albums out of that list are not even classics IMHO...
and one question please:Are ''SNAKES AND ARROWS'',''AFRAID OF SUNLIGHT'' or ''SYSTEMATIC CHAOS'' even close to what GENTLE GIANT ever created (at least their first 6 to 7 works)?

Well, I think it's a terrific list.
The top 10 looks quite good, for the biggest part.
Going For The One deserves to be at nr 11, and at last justice is done to Duke, which is of course a very good Genesis album Wink
I'm surprised by the high ranking of In Absentia: maybe I should try that album.
Yes, I didn't listen to it yet Embarrassed
Well, every list has its pros and cons, I think, but I do like this one.

Four Marillion albums (Brave, Misplaced Childhood, Fugazi and Afraid of Sunlight) but no Script for a jester's tear?

Genesis and Yes have 6 albums on the list, but i'm surprised that Duke is on the list.

Pink Floyd tied with Marillion and Rush with 4 albums?

I couldn't really read the blurb about Snakes and Arrows, and was also surprised to see it there.  It's a solid Rush album, better most of the stuff they released in the past 20 years, but doesn't belong on the list.

Opeth's Watershed at 18. ClapBig smile

Even a fanboy of the album like me has to wonder a little.
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.
