(CNN) — Farrah Fawcett, the blonde-maned actress whose best-selling poster and “Charlie’s Angels” stardom made her one of the most famous faces in the world, has died. She was 62.

Fawcett’s death was confirmed by Paul Bloch, one of her representatives at Rogers and Cowan, an entertainment public relations firm.

Fawcett, who checked into a Los Angeles, California, hospital in early April, had been battling anal cancer on and off for three years.

Ryan O’Neal, Fawcett’s romantic partner since the mid-1980s, recently told People magazine that the sex symbol was fading.

“She stays in bed now. The doctors see that she is comfortable. Farrah is on IVs, but some of that is for nourishment. The treatment has pretty much ended,” he said in a story posted May 7.

Extremely sad news.

Not only was she a popular subject for boy's posters and shirts, she should also be remembered for spawning the "Farrah-Do". Big smile

I was glad to see back in the 80s that she was able to shed the "dumb blonde" stereotype she was carying. When she did The Burning Bed, she insisted on no makeup at all much to the producer's chagrin.

Yes, it's a sad day even though we all saw it coming. All this research over the decades and still can't lick cancer. It's unbelievable something this destructive and you can't fully combat it. I've lost too many friends and family to it and it just makes me sick.

One of my brothers had that poster in his bedroom.  Cancer takes another life.  It's affected so many of my loved ones. Very sad.

Anyway, I'll always remember her fondly in this:

And for her larger role in Saturn 3:

Someone came out with a tribute collage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0UpQCDOY2M
Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

Neither have done anything for me.

I just believe she was probably a better person.

Anyhow... I'm not going to post in this thread again.

Why the hell don't you keep out of these threads, if you don't care? Personally, the death of people who still had a few years ahead of them makes me sad. Perhaps I'm an idiot, but that's the way it is.

Raff, I do care.

Snowie also made an unnecessary remark though, in my opinion.  Maybe I shouldn't have responded like I did but I felt a little annoyed that her loss is not getting as much coverage.

Both deserve to be mourned, even if neither personally touched me all that much.

I don't care actually. Not truly. But platitudes are very easy.

If she was the mega star that Jackson was, I'm sure she would get the same coverage.

I don't agree both "deserve" to be mourned.

I am not mourning either of them.

Indeed very sad, she was a beautiful woman and a symbol  of an era, but overall and for what I read, a strong, brave and courageous woman who fought against everything.

Rest in Peace

I am a bit too old to have had that iconic Farrah poster on the wall (and I preferred Jaclyn Smith to Farrah, as far as the Angels went).  Sad to see her go.

As to "mourning", I do not mourn the loss as I did not know the woman.  I'll leave the mourning to her family and friends.  However, I don't think it's inappropriate to acknowledge the passing of someone who was, for at least some of us, pretty much part of the sites and scenes of our lives for several years.  Believe me, that poster was everywhere.

Can you tell me where we're headin'?
Lincoln County Road or Armageddon.
