That's a tough call of course, but I've drawn the line at 15 minutes, anything under that I've excluded as otherwise I'd have so many to list!!

And Tom, you better make sure that Paradox Hotel gets the full 5 stars LOL.

He Roger ! Good to see you back man, I understand you had a nice holiday ? I had a "nice" (=morbid  LOL) chat with Roland in the meantime but still it's a bit empty without one of our regulars.
By the way, it did me a lot of good to see your post in my SC thread. I knew I could count on you ! Clap

And now the harsh part: I'm trying to understand what you're saying about the situation with Flower Power but I only partly understand it. It almost gives me the feeling you're a bit reluctant to give it more listens.
On the other hand that happens to me too sometimes. Especially in cases I feel I have to do a certain review but I don't really feel like it and then instead I start playing (and reviewing) other albums.
Is that the idea here ? Or am I interpreting the wrong way ?

I ran into what you're describing on Garden of Dreams, I got it, listened to it once and dropped it out of my rotation for a while.  No real reason except that it didn't connect with me at first.  After a few months, I pulled it back out and started spinning it regularly and developed an appreciation for the CD.  I'm currently in the same phase with a few other Flower King's CD's, most notably 'World of Adventures' and 'The Flower King'.

Part of my 'one review a day' mantra is to force myself to listen to those albums that I've been meaning to spin more often.

Hi Henk, hope you're well buddy.

Believe me I can't wait to get to know Garden Of Dreams but I'm simply not going to listen to it unless I can hear the whole of the piece throughout in one go.  Due to circumstances recently I've just not had the time to do that.  My commute to and from work is about 25 mins, so that's not really an option (it's ideal for a standard TFK epic Wink).  This week I've been listening to disc 2, but GoD will have to wait until next week, when I know I'm going to have the time to give it at least 3 spins.  My first hearing gave me a really good impression, but I just want to make sure I do real justice to the super-epic rather than just listen to bits of GoD here and there: that just wouldn't be right.

Talking of Flower Power disc 2, there's quite a bit of patchy stuff on there to be honest, but what can I say about Deaf Numb and Blind.  It's absolutely brilliant, a real TFK classic.

So far as Systematic Chaos is concerned, I just can't believe the general poor opinions of it.  I think it's a great album.  Incidentally I saw DT twice recently and they were absolutely fantastic live.  And I already have a ticket to see them when they are in the UK again in October Big smile.

Now if only Roine and co could get it together for a new album and tour, together with a couple of dates over here.......

Oh don't you worry about that, Paradox Hotel is one of my favorites.

O no, that sounds like you're going to make the same "mistake" as me by giving it 5 stars (?).
In one way deservedly but if I do a song by song rating it's not 5 stars by a long way for me. It should be 4.
But Monsters & Men made me go overboard back then and I had to give 5.

On your blog I wanted to suggest Frost* (Milliontown) to you but I checked it out and saw you had already done it and even gave it 5 stars ! To me it was 4,5 actually and Black Light Machine is my ultimate fav.
I would almost like to do a Frost* appreciation thread but two albums is not enough yet and I don't even like their second that much so I think I'll leave it.

And yes, the sirens at the beginning of 'Just This Once' just plain anger me.

Also, for those that are interested, I've started a blog in the blog section.  My goal is to review 20 CD's per month for the next few months, there will be a lot of FK and FK related reviews in there.  Yesterday was Snow by Spock's Beard, today is Black Clouds and Silver Linings by Dream Theater tomorrow will be Paradox Hotel.

I will how ever say this, I love 'The Devil's Playground' but feel that one of the sections takes away from the overall appeal of the song.  From 12:28 to about 13:40 there's this annoying (in my not so humble opinion) straight almost marching band thing which really grates me.

Hope all is well,

All is indeed well buddy, hope you are too.

I know exactly the bit of Devil's Playground you mean, and it's a bit annoying for me too.  I suppose there has to be the odd song/part of song that doesn't do it.  I know you hate the very start of Just This Once.  The start of Last Minute On Earth with that guttural growling (repeated later in the album) winds me up.

With The Truth Will Set You Free, that's not my fave TFK epic, but still a very good one, and an epic that would have been to these ears almost perfect had it not been for the section I referred to.

This has given me an idea, TFK epics in order.  Mine is presently:-

1.  I Am The Sun
2.  Stardust We Are
3.  Monsters And Men
4.  Driver's Seat
5.  Love Supreme
6.  The Truth Will Set You Free
7.  Devil's Playground
8.  Love Is The Only Answer.

Not sure where I'd place Garden Of Dreams yet, I don't really know it well enough.  However, I'd stress that I love all these.  They're all 5-star songs for me, in fact 1-3 are about 10 stars LOL.

Maybe he's sticking all of his time in listening lately, I remember he announced something like that. Tongue

One week's deserved holiday Smile, no Flower King yet Angry, no Flower Power on mp3 player Cry = instead I had to listen to some of the others, World Of Adventures Big smile, Retropolis Smile, Sum Of No Evil Smile, Space Revolver Big smileTongueSmile and UTF Big smile to be exact.  Next week, 6-12 July is the week I will really get the chance to give Flower Power a real listen.

On listening to The Truth Will Set You Free from UTF (for about the 30th time) again I've come to the conclusion that this epic is almost perfect, however it's spoiled a little from 23' to about 28' for me.  This section just does not seem to fit at all.  Everything else before was wonderful and so cohesive, and the very end is truly superb.  It would have been even better with that short section omitted.

Any other views folks?

I'm back guys, I've been on holiday for a week Big smile, that's the reason for my absence.

Flower Power is in my cd player but I've not really made much progress on it yet I'm afraid.  Also I've not got it on my mp3 player yet so no chance to hear that whilst I was away either.  That will change this week!

Also, The Flower King still hasn't arrived yet Angry.

TFK fan of the year, well there's a few possibilities aren't there?  I'll exclude myself from that, as I'm only a (relative) newcomer to this wonderful band.  When it comes to voting though, I'm open to bribes LOL.

I don't know them personally but from what I've seen on gigs (both live and on dvd) they really seem very sympathetic. Lately I reviewed Tomas Bodin's latest and did also some of his earlier albums but each time I'm doing this it gives the feeling I'm reviewing a friend's album. I tend to call him Tomas as if I know the guy. But that just shows what impression he apparantly makes on me. Simply a nice guy which also showed in an interview on Morow he did once. And of course I also adore his musicianship.

Oooo, I missed that. Thanks very much Smile

Quote Is there anything you get out of it by TFK ?
Yeah! 10 wonderful studio albums and numerous fantastic solo off-shoots Wink

I just think that this band should be so much bigger than they are. Whenever I send a compilation CD off to someone they are gob-smacked by how good they are and in many cases end up buying all their albums. If only they could reach everyone who would love their music.

I'm kinda evangelical about this band Wink

Quote I mean you seem to me some sort of representative for the band. Or are you such a huge fan that you do it all for free ?? In that case: Clap
That's about the size of it Wink

I've met and chatted to the band after a couple of gigs and they are just such nice guys. I don't really want to get involved beyond that. I just want to bring their music to as many people as possible.

Smile

Hey I'm here Wink

I check most days what you're on about but don't always post coz I'm also also busy on 2 mega Flower Kings threads (currently 255 pages and 143 pages) on 2 Genesis forums that I visit.

I'm usually in the process of indoctrinating Flower Kings virgins by sending off compilation CDs and offering advice. I've turned several people into TFK fanatics doing this over the last few years Wink

I really have to watch out for my no.1 position on this site Shocked. Is there anything you get out of it by TFK ?

If you have their Inconsolable Secret album you can find (with some searching) a small vid on it with a peek in the kitchen. That's actually the only time I saw Susie (and the rest of the band).
Glass Hammer is a great band though their latest album was a slight disappointment.
Anyway, have a lot of fun on 3RP and tell us about it afterwards. I'm curious.

Ok, I took the short cut there, I will explain. I noticed in your line-up of bands Glass Hammer came to your town. And their female vocalist is Susie Bogdanowicz (I reckon you don't know her, otherwise the first name would have been enough Wink). She has the voice (and the looks) of an angel so that was what I was referring to. Later on I realized the occasion has already been earlier this year (?) How about it ?
