^ but Floyd are staggeringly popular, more with non-proggies than proggies, and I can see Ayreon appealing to a high school crowd.. Genesis I'll give you, I can understand them boring people

I'd say National Health, VdGG, Bo Hansson

  1. ELP
  2. Tangerine Dream
  3. Camel
But the list can go on and on.
I chose only popular bands

Bands like Yes, Genesis and Floyd don't count as they had commercial appeal a tsometime.

Oh really?

By April 1974, ELP were top of the bill during the California Jam Festival, pushing co-stars Deep Purple to second billing. ELP's California Jam performance was broadcast nationwide in the US and is often seen as the summit of the band's career.

1. VdGG
2. Henry Cow
3. Present.

They don't have the heaviness of King Crimson, the poppiness of Genesis or the dynanism of Yes and ELP.

That isn't what I mean by commercial appeal.. So, yes, not really. I mean...I know they were freakin succesful for gods sake. I was around when it happened!

What I meant is they didn't do commercial music. Well they tried to. but it wasn;t a success.

Ah, now I understand what you mean.
Yes, Keith Emerson said in an interview on the Beyond The Beginning dvd that they were trying to obtain commercial success like Genesis did, but they weren't good at that.

I assume this was a joke since they arent even close to prog, but I actually think 'progheads' would find dragonforce more boring than your average listener

Who said Genesis?  Probably the most popular and successful prog?
I don't think TD would bore nonprogies.

I thought ELP did Fanfare for the Common Man?  Wasn't that popular?
