Topic: Favorite King Crimson Line-Up Posted: September 27 2009 at 00:35 |
What do you think was the best (or at least your favorite) line-up that King Crimson had? And why?

Fripp, Wetton, Bruford, Cross, and Muir for me. I love Cross' violin/ viola work and Muir's percussion. Larks' Tongues in Aspic is easily my favourite KC album.

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

I also vote for the Red line-up.
A perfect album.

Yup, it's the trio for me. Though I'm a fan of most incarnations of KC and I've got nothing against David Cross, I think for that brief moment when it all got stripped down to the monstrous intensity of Fripp, Bruford and Wetton, man, that's hard to beat.

I like the 70s incarnations with Wetton quite a lot, same with the Fripp/Bruford/Belew/Levin lineup...the latter has way less votes, though, so because of Discipline I vote for them.

The trio. Red is one of my absolute favorite albums, period.

It's quite unfair to seperate all line-ups, since some just released 1 album, and others released plenty more.
I'll go and vote for Islands (Fripp, Burrell, Wallace, Collins, Sinfield), even if it were for majority I would obviously go for the Wetton-era.

I pick the 80s lineup because I think those three albums represent their best and more importantly consistent era. The only other one I considered was the Larks Tongues lineup, especially because of Muir's contributions. Great sound from both lineups...

It is felt that Larks 'Tongues in Aspic is a chemical reaction for KC. I went there.

Larks Tongues lineup for me. I'd have a harder time deciding between all the different lineups with Belew it it.

Went with the 80's line-up. Though the mid 70's group was the most adventerous and made some of their best music, I think the 80's line up was the most consistent.

Though I quite enjoy the Red trio, I have to go with the grandeur of the first line-up. ItCotCK and ItWoP are magical albums with a bit more pomp than the rest of their oeuvre. They're fantastic, majestic and Lake's vocals just seem to fit their world right.

I wont vote cause my favourite line up is for Lizard, and who made up the poll criminally left out Keith Tippett! A benchmark for the New York jazz piano sound

Larks Tongues Lineup, the most experimental and Heaviest KC lineup. This lineup could jam like no other!
