I have no idea. It's not that it was on CD or something. Yesterday was the last day of school, and as usual it's a tradition to be "Music Day" where the students can play with their bands if they want, so a band which last year had played some great Genesis and Pink Floyd songs, they played a Pain of Salvation song in front of all the school! haha, really cool.
Really can't re-tell what song it was, but I can assure you that they played it excellently. It wasn't so metalish, lots of gentle piano but every now and then some powerful chords and vocals. |
AWESOME!!!! In science class I'm doing a pretty stupid project, but my teacher wants us to write lyrics to a "well-known song" that have to do with an assigned form of energy. The only problem is that I don't listen to "popular modern day songs"! I'm going to intentionally pick a song with cookie monster vocals. When my group and I get to "sing" it in front of the class with the song playing in the background, we can all growl the lyrics! Now only if I can get my group to agree with this... Anyway, if you're not into metal, I highly recommend starting with BE. Pure prog rock with many folk and classical leanings, all in a concept driven album. -Jeff

That seems cool, would pay to see you there.
About PoS, thanks for the tip, I'll take that in mind. However, from what I've heard, well at least the so-acclaimed Beyond the Pale didn't seem that heavy for me.
Oh, and I just remembered you asked for my opinion on Ricochet by Tangerine Dream. Well, it was my first Tangerine Dream experience, however I knew what I was expecting so it really didn't dissapoint me, of course not my daily-music, but still worth it's high price.

I only have Phaedra and Rubycon from Tangerine Dream. I haven't given Rubycon much attention, but I've really been trying to get into Phaedra. If I'm really tired or not feeling well, I absolutely love it. It relaxes me and takes me to another world. But most times I get fairly bored, I'll have to admit Although, it has been growing on me. Phaedra's still not higher than a 3 star for me, but considering I wanted to give it a 1 when I first heard it, it's growing on me. Oh, and you last day of school was today? I get off from school in June for summer vacation I do have off starting Dec. 24th until early January for Christmas break though -Jeff

^today is my first holiday day! I've got up to Febraury holidays!
About TD, I agree with you, you have to listen to TD when you're relaxed and you're in bed, you really feel the whole thing better and it then leads you to a chilling place which is unbelievable, haha. I would probably give Ricochet 4 stars.

So lucky.... I have a Social Studies test tomorrow on ancient Mesopotamia that's worth half of my grade this marking period Maybe I should crank some TD No actually that's impossible... my dad has Neal Morse blasting so loud I think the neighbors can hear I recently shut off Queensryche because I couldn't hear it That's okay, Neal Morse is awesome too -Jeff

That's cool that your father likes modern Prog, however in my house it's the other way round: my speakers are the ones that don't let the rest of the family listen to music or watch TV or whatver, haha.
BTW, good luck with that test tomorrow!

Yeah, my mom never gets a break. When I'm not blasting music from my room, my dad's cranking music in the living room It is really cool having a dad into prog. When we get CD's, a lot of times we each pay half. And on top of that, he has a pretty awesome collection anyway Thanks for the good wishes about the test. Oh lord, it's 7:00 already here! I'd better start studying Well, see you later Pablo! ;)

^yeah, my dad also has a pretty neat collection, it was him in the first place who brought me into Prog, and maybe Jazz too. However he hasn't converted me into Classical, yet, some Opera maybe..
Well, good luck once again then, see you around!

It is. I love how it feels like one long, cold, apocalyptic atmosphere out of which the music rises.
