Man, I do enjoy some Flower Kings. The recent news saddens me, but honestly I'd seen it coming.  Ouch

I imagine I could hardly hammer out a top ten songs list.  Pretty much whatever I'm listening to at the time, y'know? LOL  I'm sure I could look through them all and pick ten that seemed reasonable, but really, they're pretty much all awesome and classy.  So instead:

Listening to this masterpiece for the first time since recalibrating the home speakers.  After all this time, do you really doubt it's black and white!? LOL I can't believe I still love this record, I've had to have heard it hundreds upon hundreds of times in the 7 or 8 years since I got it.

This is pretty close to mine Nov.  My top 4 are all in your top 6.  A big Thumbs Up to you.  The Man Who Walked With Kings is another huge favourite of mine.  That one could easily have made my top 10 as well.

It's clear to see I Am The Sun is considered a serious work of art.  Voted no. 1 by your goodself, Me and Tom Approve

Absolutely, it's some the best drum work on the whole album, truly, some of Salazar's best work.

Best Flower Kings album.  Ever.  No contest.  (though my personal favorite is still Retropolis, for sentimental reasons.....first Flower Kings I ever heard)

It was actually a joke, by Salazar.  Apparently he really liked the hot dogs they sold at IKEA (which, in Sweden, is more like a Wal Mart than what we get here in the USA).  They would close at 9 PM, so he was always in a hurry to get done with rehearsals/recording so he could get there in time to get his hot dogs.  This was his idea of a take for some song or other on Flower Power.  Seriously, I kid you not.

the IKEA near where I live sells hot dogs, and I agree they are quite awesome (and cheap!). They actually have a whole grocery store section with all sorts of awesome swedish food. You can even pick up a Daim bag.

If it wasn't so out of the way I'd probably go there more often.

Has anyone else noticed that the section of "Monsters & Men" starting at 10:44 was later reused for "Pieces Of Heaven" by Transatlantic? It was also used in a section of "The Sum of No Reason".

It seems Roine liked that song a lot more than he wants us to think.

Well, he did say he really liked the song when he wrote it and first presented it to the group.  Just felt it didn't live up to it's potential and has bad vibes for him due to the disinterest of some FK members and their subsequent uninspired performances on the studio recording.

Monster & Men - A Work of Genius ? or Too slow/Boring ?
Nail your colours to the mast....
I absolutely LOVE it Wink

It's a top 5 Flower Kings track for me.

Nov's post got me thinking.  I'd be interested to know the present Top 5 TFK tracks (or Top 10 if you prefer) of all our regular contributors (and anybody else for that matter Smile).  I know we did something similar very early on in this thread, but it's been a long time....  I'm especially wondering if there's any tracks that will make everybody's list.

Here's my Top 10.  I tried to avoid it being all epics, but it's difficult Wink...

1.  I Am The Sun (complete).  This is my favourite piece of music by anybody, ever. Full stop.
2.  Garden Of Dreams
3.  Monsters And Men
4.  Stardust We Are
5.  Retropolis
6.  World Of Adventures
7.  Silent Inferno
8.  Theme For A Hero
9.  The Merrygoround
10. Babylon

Just missing out - Drivers Seat, Monster Within, Chicken Farmer Song, One More Time.

Any other takers?
Roj,
All 10 are excellent choices, Flora Majora is possibly a top tenner, I reckon my order would be different.
Good weekend, I was in the Park Inn for the game - running round like a lunatic after Scholes sublime header shut up the noisy neighbours yet again !!!
I have listened to Darwins radio and weas impressed with the shorter tracks !!!
Have to listen some more me thinks....

That was exactly my thoughts too.  I do still prefer the shorter two tracks from the Darwin's Radio cd, though the epic has grown on me more.

Rob, I would definitely take a plunge on the new Kaipa cd, In The Wake of Evolution.  This is really top notch and I think will be right up your bombastic symphonic street!!!

Shorter tracks from Darwin's Radio?  Are you guys talking about the first release or is there a third one out now?

New one?  We should be so lucky LOL.  Nope, the shorter tracks from the Template album were what we meant.  Not short admittedly, but definitely shorter at least Wink.

Also, with IKEA By Night, I just don't think some people have got the joke, Tom.  Never have tried their hot dogs - something else for the "to do" list!!!!

^ *Laughs*  the 'shorter' ones are still in excess of ten minutes.  Personally, I love all three tracks, great album all around though I prefer the first one.

Regarding IKEA, I totally need to try one of their hot dogs now.  If they're good enough to inspire music, then their certainly worth being sought out.

Listened to "Garden of Dreams" last night, mainly because it had been getting into the top spots far too often to be anything but genius. The first 20 minutes are awesome, their are also some Stolte guitar genius moments... The finale is also awesome....but that bit with the gregorian moaning I think the teack sort of rambles for 10 minutes - If you had another bit of awesome synth/guitar mega-soloing in this part then you would be looking at a top three track rather than a top 10.......
I know Roj sort of likes weird bit's thats why he's more into Floyd than me - so I can see that the groaning and choir-boy interlude may appeal to his floydian appreciation module in his brain....
