I used to agree with the first one, but now it has changed. Of course, it is a matter of opinion, but now I think musicianship is just as important as songwriting. It doesn't matter to me how well written a song is, if it's not played well, I won't enjoy it; though if it's played well and the songwriting is poor I won't enjoy it either.

As for the second one, I used to agree with the first part, but now I agree with the second; though I've gotten a few friends on board. Wink

I think it's pretty absurd to think that any one band could sufficiently represent all of progressive music.  It's especially absurd to think that band would be Pink Floyd. Tongue

LOL

When you think Henry Cow is a man, rather than a band
When you think all music after 1989 isn't worth listening to
When you think Peter Hammill is David Bowie (my mate thought this)

i didn't mean they reprensent prog much better than anyone else, i just meant that they do represent prog very good. not fully, but one band cant do that alone.

here's another one: when you think that prog is about songs that are hard to play

Sadly, I used to be guilty of most of these.........

I must admit, in my teens I used to take a strange delight in listing bands that no one at school had heard of...

These days when I'm asked to name bands I like, when I meet people, I go the oppositie way and wrack my brains to think of prog bands they HAVE heard of!
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

When you are not surprised that Jethro Tull is filed under 'T' in a record store.
When you think Capability Brown was a gardener.
When you think Van Der Graaf Generator is spelt wrong.
When you think Genesis stopped being a good band when Phil Collins left.

Landscape artist, LANDSCAPE ARTIST! Just kidding, they're one of my favorite bands. But, you're allowed to think they were a gardener even if you're not a prog newbie, a lot of people don't know them.

I can see why he would think that, as apparently Bowie is an admirer of Hammill.  And you know, the ending of "Lost" is similar to "Ashes to Ashes" (or at least according to my misunderstanding.)LOL

I still remember the face my friend made, when he asked me what kind of music Genesis plays and since I didn´t quite know how to describe it, I said: "Well their music is classified as symphonic prog."  I still think it´s kind of an ugly word and try not use words like that outside of this forum.
I like my eggs boiled and that´s it!
