I really like this live release more than his previous studio one - even if big part of songs is the same, sound is different, more jazz-rock, without additional female vocals and other pop-rock tricks :)

I really like early Edgar Broughton Band's bluesy albums, but even at that time they were kind of proto-punk band for me. Disappointed when they became The Broughtons though...

They went agi-prop = protest rock, around 1971

Great, this time these two hours were more rock-bluesy, and I like it!

Back to emphasising the jazz through the first 30 minutes and then mixing it for the following 90. Two things of importance here. First,  Dave Brubeck is 90 this week (anybody see the gentle, celebratory documentary by Clint Eastwood on BBC 4 this weekend? Favourite moment: Keith Emerson showing the camera a copy of 'Blue Rondo's' sheet music signed by Brubeck and thanking Emerson for transcribing the music into 4.4!! But what did Sting add, other than an indirect reinforcement of my thoughts that Brubeck was perhaps more influential on [prog] rock than any other jazz musicans?). And the forthcoming release of Theo Travis's 'All I Knew An Anthology'. I'm seeing Theo in Nottingham on Tuesday evening providing and playing a soundtrack to theGerman silent movie 'Cabinet Of Dr Caligari'. Hopefully an interview will follow; one question will be wrt musicians composing and/or improvising soundtracks to silent movies (e.g. Gary Lucas and Dave Douglas critically acclaimed performances in London two Sundays ago).

Excellent performance by Travis & Co as Cipher last night in Nottingham, improving a musical soundtrack to the 20's silent  expressionist movie The Cabinet of Dr Caligari. As the weather was abyssmal, Theo and I decided (as we packed away his gear) not to do the interview last night, as he had to get back to London, through fog and very icy conditions. Instead the plan is do a telephone interview live on air mid January or slightly later.

Evening

Theo Travis is very broad ranging from replacing the late Elton Dean in Soft MAchine Legacy, to playing soundscape s in English Cathedrals with Robert Fripp, so stick with it
