Thanks for the links ACR, I'm checking them out now. BTW, I enjoyed your 'Prog thru the years' blog. Have you got to 2003 yet?

Thanks a lot Prog Geo! That was a pretty cool song. The Psyche/Space genre here at PA is huge, but other than the most popular artists I've heard very little.

I will check them out, thanks.
Here's a song I completely forgot about, but there is no reason why I should have. This song was my introduction to the Zeuhl band Eskaton, thanks to PA. Before I discovered PA, the only Zeuhl bands I was familiar with were Magma, Zao and Ruins. I heard this song here and it blew me away; had to get this album ASAP.
"Attente" from the album 4 Visions recorded in 1979:
My review is still on the band page:

You are very welcome PlumAplomb! I am familiar with Boredoms and they are great. I've heard 1 or 2 other songs from the same Wha-Ha-Ha album, and they are even better. Happy hunting!

Here's a song from Italian RPI band Area. I reviewed their album Crac! so far, but this is from their 1973 debut album Arbeit Macht Frei, which I will review in the future. The song is called "Luglio Agosto Settembre (Nero)":

This is the Swiss band Island filed under Eclectic. The song is the title track from their only album Pictures released in 1977:
Recently they released Pyrrho which I think is a collection of demos. I haven't heard it yet, but I have heard Pictures. It's on my list of future albums to review.

Today we got a double whammy bammy. First off is one of the greatest early prog epics. The title track from UK Jazz-Rock/Fusion group Colosseum's 1969 album Valentyne Suite. These guys were pretty well known at the time, but seem to have been mostly forgotten now.
As well, here's a song from Colosseum II. The song is called "All Skin And Bone" from their Electric Savage album from 1977. The only thing both groups have in common is drummer Jon Hiseman.
I have heard the Valentyne Suite album but not Electric Savage.

Here's something newer. This is a song from American band Frogg Cafe listed under Jazz-Rock/Fusion here on PA. From their 2010 album Bateless Edge, the song is called "Move Over I'm Driving":
I haven't reviewed this album yet, but I hope to sometime this week.

A song now from the original post-rock group from Chicago, Tortoise. These guys are not as popular as other post-rock bands, but they should be. I haven't reviewed this album yet, but this is the title track to their 1998 album TNT:

Now something from the German Krautrock band Brave New World. This is a song called "Soma" from their only album Impressions On Reading Aldous Huxley(1972):
That's not one of the best songs on the album, though. I think this one is much better:
You can read my review of the album on the artist page:

A song now from Canterbury supergroup Hatfield & The North. These guys aren't terribly obscure but nowhere as well known as Caravan, Softs or Gong. They only made two albums but they are two of the best albums in the Canterbury Scene. I've reviewed The Rotter's Club, but not the self-titled debut yet, which this song comes from.

It's an excellent album all around, and this piece is fantastic. The album also has a really nice version of Eleanor Rigby in it for those Beatles fans!
You must play their rock out version of Dance Macabre from their second album! ... and then you add Vivaldi with Canons by Curved Air (both versions live and album back to back) then you add String Driven Thing's Tympany for the Devil, and then ... ohhh forget it ... Guy Guden has already done it and progressive radio is crap and not talented enough to chase really far out stuff other than hits!

You think that this bunch of folks in PA can appreciate some of that dramatic style rock? ... I mean, we can always pull out Ange and Mona LIsa and watch folks comment right away they don't like the singing! Very nice album. Edited by moshkito - January 20 2011 at 18:53 |

The guitarist ... Yukka Tolonen also has several solo albums and they are very good. When we heard these some folks were comparing his guitar solos to Frank Zappa at the time, albeit with music that could be considered a lot less pop oriented, and more expression and "progressively" designed.

I always thought his early stuff and experimental albums were nice and a lot of fun to listen to ... but I think some folks will get weirded out ... this is not Dream Theater or the prog they like ... and this ain't Rush either! It's a very entertaining and unusual listen and quite nice. I think I have the first 4 albums.

They are best known for having written the soundtrax for many films for Dario Argento ... sadly enough, the music is better on the albums than it ever was in the movies, where it was cut up and destroyed ... very moody and very nice all around, and quite enjoyable. Not to mention that the majority of the movies ... were really ... el stink'o! Edited by moshkito - January 20 2011 at 18:55 |
