My last review of an Italian Prog album:

Lucio Battisti Lucio Battisti (Gold Italia collection) album cover

4 stars Interesting budget price compilation in "Gold Italia Collection" serie. Interesting also because this compilation present the side more Prog of Lucio Battisti: full Rock Progressivo Italiano! So if you do not love Lucio Battisti but you would like to have something of Lucio Battisti, this compilation (along with that of 1985) I recommend this compilation. As I already wrote the music is true Rock Progressivo Italiano because this is the field Lucio Battisti where he worked: most songs are just POP, but here's his experimental soul.

It is important that you understand the importance of Lucio Battisti for the Italian prog to understand Lucio Battisti's music. So you can understand one of the 10 most important artists of the Rock! Enjoy it!

The rumours is that he had to change his PA ID because the makers of Mandrakeroot Beer took offense.

OK, I just made that one up.

1967 is the newer forum name of Mandrakeroot, and thus many of the old timers still call him Mandi.

P.S. MANDI, in friulian (FRIULI is the region where Mandi lives) language means, simply, "CIAO".

Lucio Battisti - Lucio Battisti (compilation) CD (album) cover

LUCIO BATTISTI (COMPILATION)

Lucio Battisti

5 stars For me this compilation is great for an introduction to Lucio Battisti musical world. That is a magical world. My answer to the question if Lucio Battisti is a Prog artist is simple. Lucio Battisti is not a Prog artist but at the same time is the first Italian Prog Artist. Battisti's compositions are a sort of POP/ Beat Prog songs as the fact that the rhythmic section isn't POP cause complexity and the rest of melody is not made by guitars, orchestra or keyboards but from vocals, cause the intricate figure of various instruments that not have true rhythmic riffs. Ok, the final result is a melody but because the stratification of the various instruments is an explosion of melody. I see various scores and I struggled quite a little to understand something. Not because the use of complex times signature is in Battisti's music... Normal Rock in 4/4 is normal but the complexity of arrangements and of single musical figures is the norm. In this sense The Nice is a good band that this concept has evolved, rather than The Moody Blues or Procol Harum. The final result is not Prog but it is more that symphonic POP.

This compilation presnt 16 composition by Lucio Battisti (music) and Mogol (lyrics) from 1968, 1969, 1970 and 1971, all Battisti's evergreen and for this motive great for a good introduction in Battisti's musical world. A world that a progsters should definitely know to understand the origins of his preferred music.

As a correct view I think that this compilation, for the songs that contain, deserve five stars.

Cool Torodd, their website has a detailed breakdown of the album themes that might be useful in conjuring some questions about the album.

Paul, are your ordering from BTF, the Pandora isn't out in the States for a few weeks....not sure if it would be worth it for us with the time delay in shipping.

Yep, ordered at BTF Jim. So I may be the first to review hey......

Will give you my verdict asap.

NEW PANDORA'S: great news... I have their debut... nothing spectacular but the band looks promising... so I'm curious... there will be any improvement?
