Just been listening to Rick Wright's 'Broken China' album after really listening to his appearance on Dave Gilmour live, wow what a beauty, has to be in the all time 10 prog albums. I always thought his 'Wet Dream' was a very solid album if one that doesn't really hit any high points.
It might be just me but the song 'Breakthrough' just sounds like it sould be right up there with classics such as 'Yesterday,' 'Bo-Rhap' and the other all-time greats. I can imagine it would sound fantastic regardless of performer.

Any other fans of this album?

Why is it a hidden gem, I actually had no idea he made Wet Dream?

I love this album ( broken china ) but it's very dark, the way Rick sings makes me think a bit of Hammill, love Wet Dreams too, and the one he released as Zee with Dave Harris contains very good stuff too

I think that's why I love it so much, I've been after a prog album for years that's glum all the way through, even DSOM has the quirky 'Money' to lift your mood!

There's an instrumental on 'Broken China' called 'Runaway' that sounds very very Radiohead, but it was written 5 years before Radiohead did 'Spinning Plates.'

Very enjoyable album. The version of the song Breakthrough that appears in "David Gilmour in Concert" is really supperb. Once I read Gilmour was rather dissapointed when he heard Broken China because he would have wanted Breakthrough as part of the Division Bell. I guess that's the reason he chose to play that song live.

I noticed Rick changed the lyrics on 'Breakthrough' on Dave Gilmour live, I don't think he was comfortable singing 'beatified' several times.

Yes maybe, but you know Rick was shy and humble, David said during an interview that Rick was embarrassed when the audience stood up as he was arriving on stage to play through David gig, i've been hoping for years, meeting him just a few minutes to tell him how much he was important in my music lover life but.....unhappily
