Topic: Klaus Schulze vs. Ruins - A Poll Posted: May 18 2011 at 21:49
These two artists have...one thing in common. They both have a permanent spot in my music collection. I felt like doing a poll of opposites, and they seem to be on pretty much opposite ends of the spectrum, musically speaking.
Here's a sample of one of my favorite Klaus Schulze albums:
And two great Ruins tracks from Hyderomastgroningem:

I'm listening to Cyborg right now, so at the moment I'd be inclined to vote for Schulze...if I wasn't listening to either band, it would be tricky. I love both, for different reasons.

Ruins, although I do know more from them.
Dig me...But don't...Bury me I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

Schulze because he has been around longer and has a larger discography. I like Ruins but I don't think I could listen to them all day, whereas I could listen to nothing but Klaus all day.

Let's see, I listen to Schulze almost daily (easy with about 100 cds to choose from) But I haven't managed to get into Ruins yet, maybe I haven't heard the right album yet?

I'm the opposite. I only have three Ruins albums, Symphonica, Pallaschtom, and Tohjinbo. I do want to get Sax Ruins.
I haven't explored Schulze much beyond his 70's albums, and I would say that Cyborg is the one of his I've listened to the most over the years (I really love that album)..

KS has been a bit hit and miss over the years, but Ruins have never released anything substandard, although it looks like there won't be any new albums unless Yoshida finds another virtuoso Zeuhl bass monster in Tokyo.
sax Ruins is indeed a splendid album - I'm hoping that Ruins back catalogue will be like John Zorn's Masada series and will be reinterpreted in a variety of different styles.

I don't know enough Klaus Shulze to vote. But it would be difficult to found a lot of bands better than Ruins for me. Anyway the Ruins track that your have chosen is the best of this amazing album!
