We're doing a benefit tomorrow and I finally figured out what out intro will be.

I'm using "Check In" from Paradox Hotel to start the band off.  A bit of Flower Kings in the midst of a country show...heh.

Nice LOL

When I lived in Pittsburgh, I helped my roommate when he did sound for a country bands live shows.  It was a lot of fun, and the audiences were very nice to us (we both were long haired, tie dyed, non-standard music fans).  The band was quite good at what they did, and there were even some songs I enjoyed hearing.

The Flower Kings have just surpassed Asia to become my 6th most listened to band since I started tracking the music that I listen to on Last.FM almost 4 years ago.

What I stated was from his own words, so I guess you'll have to take it up with him if you don't believe me.  Wink

My bad.  I misunderstood what you said earlier.  I feel a bit foolish now.

No, that's okay, I wasn't very clear.  I just think it's impressive that he is not a technical musician in the sense most people think.  He doesn't sight read or write out music.  I suppose if he had to though, he probably could.  At least, that is my understanding from things he has written on the Yahoo group and said in interviews.

I can't wait for the new Karmakanic album.  Send A Message From The Heart was great.

I dont think there's going to be any "epics" in terms of length. But I'm sure they'll still be EPIC!

The longest song is only 14 minutes but song length is not important anyway.  Hopefully it will be a top album for 2011. It's a little sad to see Zoltan go but Marcus Liliequist is still good.

I'm not one to judge quality based on song length so I agree with you. However, 14 minutes to me is not an epic, maybe mini-epic. Like I said, I'm sure it'll be EPIC in sound Smile

I'm probably going to get grief for this one but in all honesty, I think that the 'epic' as a 25 minute song, is a bit much.  I'm a big fan of songs in the ten to fifteen minute mark.  Don't get me wrong, I still love quite a few epics, but it's not in any way shape or form necessary for me to really enjoy something.

That's fine if it works for you but I really don't care how long a song is, as long as it is good.  Three of my favorite songs, Supper's Ready, Garden Of Dreams, Karn Evil 9, are long but their content out lasts their length.
Just give it all an hour by the concrete lake.

I agree on the song length not being an issue.  There are a lot of great epics out there, there are a lot of great ten minute songs as well.

"Supper's Ready" is a perfect example, I love Genesis, they are usually my favorite band (every once in a while The Flower Kings or Porcupine Tree may surpass them briefly).  If you ask me what my favorite songs by them, I don't think Supper's Ready would be in the top ten, if you look at my top ten, many of them are in the 8-12 minute mark (Dance on a Volcano, Cinema Show, One for the Vine, Epping Forest, come to mind).

The Flower Kings have more epics in my top ten, (I am the Sun leaps to mind), but still, I love "Minor Giant Steps", "Serious Dreamers" and "End on a High Note" more than just about everything else by them.

I don't know why, I just tend to gravitate towards the mid length songs.

Well, considering that the longest track ever on a Karmakanic album is under 20 minutes (Send a Message From the Heart), 14 minutes is pretty long.  I guess there was a two part epic on the second album, but I never thought the two parts really seemed like the same song.  Song lengths don't really matter to me much at all, though there was a time several years ago where I bought albums based on that (not only that, but it was a big factor, as I thought if there was a really long track, it must be really good........I've since realized that is often not the case).

Marcus instead of Zoltan is actually a very big disappointment for me.  Marcus is an okay drummer, but not anywhere close to the standards of the other TFK drummers, IMO.

Almost getting tired of saying this............but it's sounding more and more promising that there might be new Flower Kings in 2012.  Roine keeps dropping hints on the Flower King Yahoo group.  I'm not getting too excited yet, but here's to hoping.

Also, the more I listen to the Tour Kaputt CDs (and DVD), the more I like it.  There is just no substitute for TFK's live!  Awesome!

Okay, more excitement.  This from the Flower Kings Yahoo group (thanking people for their comments about the DVD):

"I talked to Per (Nordin) today  and we were both happy that you all
seem to like it -
cause we've both put in hundreds of hours into the mixing and editing.
Now help spread the word on other messagebords and facebook pages
and you may help bringing the boys back into the studio.........

In fact - all bandmembers also seem to like it too - so the general
vibe seems to be very, very positive.

Also nice to see that it gives a little credit both to  "The Sum Of No
Evil" songs
that were rated 50/50 good & bad  at the time of release -  and to
Pat Mastelotto
who  weren't given   a fair chance to blend in and be accepted after
Zoltans fireworks.

So besides being great entertainment for all of you - it will boost my
ego -
so I can say "what did I tell you?"  -  I hate to be right - but I
love to be right : LOL.

Roine."

Now THAT sounds promising Big smileClap
