Well, at least we know we can't have a single thread on the forums without at least one troll.  The universe is in balance.

As to Rush, I think they pretty much fit the dictionary definition of "progressive", whether you enjoy them or not.  As to "Prog" (genre), well for me the fit it for most of their early career.  Of course, I stopped listening after Presto (which seemed kind of regressive to me, a first for them at the time, though I still enjoyed most of the tracks and the subsequent tour).  So I'm not sure I am qualified to speak about their albums after that.

I think you'd be a fool to suggest that they are not extremely good and competent musicians and/or that they have not left their mark on the Prog genre as a whole, regardless of whether you like them or not (in other words, from an objective standpoint, as a musician, I really don't see how you could call them "bad"......from a subjective standpoint, you can call them whatever you like and it will be completely true.....for you).

The bottom line is that the brilliance, artistry and magic that is Rush....continues.

Ok, for me doesnt matter the label too. But would you still care about Rush if they got the label of Hair Rock? LOL

And procolwho isn't going to stop posting. I doubt if he's ever gotten bored of his, ahem, intelligent observations.

Here Lee himself bashes his voice in the early years. Not sure its any better now.

And its on a site called hairbandrock.

I'll wise you up eventually.

I'd be more worried reading an interview with an artist that wasn't self critical. they've been in the business for 30+ years so it's only right and proper that they look back at their early work with a critical eye.

and i don't think being mentioned on a 1980s fanzine site makes them hairbandrock any more than being on here makes them 'prog'.
They are what they are. A professional, constantly changing rock band with a unique sound.
A lot of prog fans like them and they appear to have inspired many modern prog musicians.

You don't have to like them, but if you can't recognise their musical talent then there's no arguing with you.

They're all just so beautiful!!

I love going to 80s hair metal band's profile in last.fm and just see how every band looks EXACTLY the same. It's a fun tang to do when you're bored.

Being extremely popular at various times, though particularly in the 80's, I'm sure they appear on many sites that feature all sorts of rock bands.  Like Guitar Player, Rolling Stone, Modern Drummer, Classic Rock Presents Prog......to name just a couple.  They are also here, on Progarchives.  Denying their talent and skill, does not negate it.

As to Geddy criticizing his own singing, I agree with wjohnd.

Yeah, I think it was , just look at that picture. For sure, he cut it.

They are looking at him, he's holding up 5 fingers, meaning he was keeping count.

I really hope Rush releases Clockwork Angels soon.
I hear they have an epic song on it.
