Maybe not the best thing ever done in 2001-2010, but In Absentia is my favourite album from the list and from PT as well (doesn't matter prog or not).

De-Loused (and surprised to be only the second person voting it, from over 20 votes already).

Like I said, you have the right to your opinion. However, don't go around claiming there's no validity in someone's opposing sentiment, especially when you yourself haven't made much of a case for your argument.
I've never heard a "conventional" rock album as eclectic as In Absentia in my entire life. Besides, If you ask me Toby Driver could stand to write a few tracks with a tendency towards a conventional structure every now and again, as well as break away from the plodding tempo he often relies on. What's truly sad is people who automatically dismiss anything that also has popish side just because they can't see how it adds to the bigger picture. Dynamics is a large part of what I consider prog to be about, but now I'm arguing semantics the same as you are. May the strongest win, period.

I debate whatever I like. And if I think its sad that a conventional rock album wins best progalbum of the decade on the worlds biggest progforum, I'll write it.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people who know a lot more about prog than you (not saying me, that would be a lie) would disagree with you there, hence the inclusion of the album in The Archives. Would you argue with them? |
I don't need to argue with them. Sleeper's basically already said it, but you know your argument is not a valid one. Porcupine Tree would not be here if In Absentia was their only albumrelease. I like the album for what it is, btw.

I'm not saying the album isn't fine craftmanship but man It'll be depressing if an alternative rock album wins. It not even alternative, most of the time. 3/4 of it could easily be inluded on an Adult Contemporay formatted radio station, and no one would react.

Gosh you're right that is terrible. Actual people listening to prog. Just awful.

Not every album in the Archives is prog, and In Absentia is one that I many others dont consider prog, though its still far and away the best thing PT have ever done.
Anyway, unbelievably easy win for Kayo Dot here with TMV offering the only sign of resistance.

Second Life Syndrome.
The album that showed me that prog metal can be brilliant and encouraged me to explore Opeth, too.

I like all about equally, but Kayo Dot and Mars Volta are the ones I'd give 5 stars.

I don't want any of these to win. They're all brilliant, but every single one of them is outclassed by a previous or future album by the same band.
'Deadwing' is the best Porcupine Tree album, 'Frances The Mute' is far, far better than 'Deloused', 'Anno Domini High Definition' is better than 'Second Life Syndrome' Pretty much anything is better than that KC album.
Ah well, out of these I vote for In Absentia, but it makes me uncomfortable that I'm voting for the best 21st century prog album, not just choosing out of these great albums.

They're all great choices but I had to go with FOABP. That album is a sheer masterpiece start to finish. Btw, I've really enjoyed this poll series! Hope to see something like it soon!
