I was about to say "at least Walter was funny"

Has anybody mentioned Diablo Swing Orchestra or Grayceon yet?

Guys, thank you. But in general you recommend more melancholic stuff and it would be great if you suggest more upbeat bands

I'm almost satisfied, there's plenty of music to listen to, but if there's something more suitable (or upbeat) let me know

Upbeat? Wow, now we're in trouble. In my experience most of the really good bands in prog metal tend to go to the melancholic, dark, depressing side of things, very few in the other direction and none that I can think of that would fit what you want.

I'm going to suggest miRthkon, though their focus is definitely more on the wonky Zappa-esque jazz side of things rather than on the metal. Also, something of a wildcard but how about Ruins?

Sorry, I *did that thing that I'm not supposed to mention* their albums

So, we'll see

come on, dude, like there's someone who doesn't know Mastodon in this world

although I acknowledge them as one of the central bands in music today, I'm f*cking sick of them

I've been listening to Leviathan for like 4 month and then I have to stop listening for Mastodon for a while, you know, to make a breake. But they are so fuc*ing popular and all my friends just can't get enough so for some 6 years there's Mastodon everywhere I go

I'd die not to hear that fu*king redheaded bum's voice for a day (and did I mention I consider them geniuses?)

But I'm totally into Baroness right now =D

I assume you've done the djent thing with Animals as Leaders, Cloudkicker, et al.

If you can handle harsh vocals, Ephel Duath is pretty amazing stuff.

And I assume you have the two Cynic albums which are just amazing.

Yeah, I rally like Animals As Leaders but I find Cloudkicker etremely boring

And I just hate Disneyish clean vocals in Periphery

Ephel Duath might be a good recommendadtion and although I've listened to them, it was so long ago that I don't actually remember the sound, but I remember that it was some kind of blackish polyrhythmical jazz metal

As for Cynic: I loke some songs on Traced in Air but all-in-all find the album to be very boring, and I haven't really heard the other one

Zappa-metal?

I'm no big expert on what you are looking for, but Dream Theater is highly influenced by Frank Zappa, particularly in their instrumental sections. For example, songs like Beyond This Life (especially the Live at Budokan version), Erotomania, Metropolis Pt 1, and Outcry may be what you are looking for; plus many more...

as probably most people who listen to prog for more than a month, DT makes me sick. And I never really liked a single album by them, just some songs like The Dance of Eternity

Alright, well you didn't give much info in the OP so I didn't want to suggest anything too obscure

Given that your pretty clued up on this kind of music, I'm going to have to dive into some of the more obscure bands I know of.

You might like Akphaezya, crazy French band in the UneXpect vein but not as technically brilliant.
Circle Take the Square, Rolo Tomassi, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Ebony Lake,  Hookah the Fuzz, In Lingua Mortua and Protest the Hero are about as much as I can think of that might offer something of what your looking for.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.
