That Miles Davis' Kind of Blue makes the all-time, all-categories top twenty-five Prog Rock albums list, and I don't even see Get Up With It or Big Fun when I change it from the default top 100 to 250 albums says all I really want to about how much worth I give that list.

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

I am wondering why Fear of a Blank Planet + Nil Recurring EP (which are bundled into a 2LP configuration) ended somewhere around #85? Other than a little too creepy album cover art, this is probably one of the most "complete/accomplished" quality music albums I have had. It's quite on par with the top tier classic prog albums as far as musical contents and the message relevance. The musicianship and execution are flawless (the guest performance by Mr. Fripp on Nil and Mr. Lifeson on Anesthetize aren't bad either), with the emphasis on the most excellent performance by Mr. Harrison ... what a fiesta!
Equally importantly, FoaBP is complex, but not over-complicated or confused or chaotic. I often marvel all those different musical styles and genres gracefully morphing into each other, even in the course of a single song.
Speaking of progressiveness, PT is a near-perfect example of a band's forward-evolution over some 20 years. |

The top 100 albums does not reflect my own top 100, but there is very little on it here that I do not like. As a big Jade Warrior fan I would like to see some of the albums rated higher, especially Last Autumn's Dream which I describe in my review as the best album ever. Of course, I give that title to a few other albums as well (maybe I should do a poll on that - should it be a survivor? ). We all have our own unique tastes and what ends up on the site's lists are the common denominators. Some take umbrage at this, but I take it in stride, even when I see an album or artist I do not like get highly rated.

I'm somewhat surprised that Parallel World by Far East Family Band isn't rated higher. The huge emphasis of the "space" sound on that space rock album is absolutely stellar.

Supertramp's 'Famous Last Words'. The last album with the classic lineup should at least be up there with 'Crisis? What Crisis?' and definitely better than 'Brother Where You Bound'. I think the release timing really hurt this one.

There's a general absence of Krautrock in the top 250. Nothing by Kraftwerk, Neu! or Faust.
Also, I'm shocked that Captain Beefheart didn't make the list.

This is my first thread like this, thought it would be kinda interesting...
Black Chord by Astra - a very new album so maybe not enough people know about it, in my opinion it beats most albums from the 70's Midnight Mushrumps and Red queen to gryphon Three by Gryphon - maybe not many people like the medieval style they have, but i am shocked this isn't even in the top 100 Camel by Camel - easily as good as Moonmadness, Snow Goose and Mirage Of Queues And Cures by National Health - I don't think many people know about this album which is a shame because it's in my opinion the best Canterbury scene album Lizard by King Crimson - Better than every other KC album Everything by ELP - Seriously, how is Tarkus and Brain Salad Surgery not in at least the top 20? some of the most kick ass ballads of all time. there is a weird dislike for ELP by some of the people on this board.
