Topic: Best Part 2 for a classic prog album Posted: September 06 2012 at 15:26 |
Part 2 of classic prog albums are often less known, less played in Live than associated Part 1, although they are often excellent. Which of them do you prefer ? My choice for "Passion Play part 2", which in my opinion worths the Part 1, which is not the case for "Thick as a Brick".

Well, it was meant to be a Poll, but it seems I have only Rights to create classic Topics... The choice was between : - Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick part 2 - Jethro Tull - A passion Play part 2 - Pink Floyd - Shine on Part 2 - King Crimson - Larks Tongue Part 2

The first to spring to my mind is Magma's "Köhntarkösz (Part Two)".

The absence of Ëmëhntëhtt-Ré in this list makes it easier: Shine On followed by Larks' Tongues in Aspic.

A Passion play side two is a joy to listen too.

Six Degrees of Separation By DREAM THEATER. Hands down. What a layered masterpiece that whole album is. Unbelievable.

Shine On Parts 6-9 is definitely one of my favorite Pink Floyd compositions, especially part 8. I guess "The Ocean" from Galleon's Land to Ocean was pretty good, a great 2nd CD. Same for Dirge's "Wings of Lead Over Dormant Seas" from the album of the same name. If you're talking albumwise, I really do prefer Sleeping in Traffic, Part 2 over Part 1.

I consider drone metal to be progressive...

confusingly the 1994 remaster just has part 1 and part 2 although the recent remaster has it as Pts 1-5 and Pts 6-9 as you say

The latter half of Shine On was extended to over twenty minutes when they played it live in 1977, that gets my vote.

TAAB has the best part2 IMO. I sometimes even enjoy it more than part1.

Either "Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres" or Metropolis Part II: Scenes from a Memory.

This. Also, Ommadawn Part Two and The Chamsin Soundtrack are some that come off the top of my head, if you want to count the later as being one.

Nice. I like the idea of having the entire scenes of a memory album listed as a sequel. Could work for me
