I hope you're not accusing me of psycho hatred toward them. If so, you're wrong. |

Public "growth" doesn't amount to growth. It results in bubbles that pop. The reason is that public spending creates artificial demand. |

The real problem is that you are regurgitating right wing talking points without actually knowing what the hell you are talking about... |

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

It can also allocate resources towards meaningful and innovative things such as math and scientific research, which enable a country to stay ahead versus the competition.

For example, the impetus for the Internet Revolution in the United States came from government funded military projects. Also, lots of technology that the masses take for granted. Also, government funded most of the scientific and healthcare research that enabled Americans to live much longer, to enjoy a relatively lucrative existence on earth. If you think the private sector would be able to fund some of the research, I beg to differ.

^ while cell phone network itself was developed independently from military cellular networks, most of the groundwork research and technology development was military funded and driven.

Well, this has really become the talking point in Australia too. I feel for the DJs who perhaps were only a small part of why she suicided. Theres more to this than on the surface. Suicides are a result of many things not just one prank call. If you want to hear the call its here and it sounds ridiculous in itself. |

Michigan is on the verge of becoming a "right to be fired" state...err I mean "right to work" state. I guess that I kind of have mixed feelings about this. It doesn't really directly effect me because I have never belonged to a union, nor have I ever had to belong to a union. On one hand, I would be OK with this if it wasn't for the fact that company management usually consists of a bunch of fat, greedy SOBs that will stop at nothing to screw their employees to fatten the bottom line and increase their own outrageous bonuses. On the other hand, some Union bosses tend to be a bunch of fat, greedy b*****ds who live high off of the hog whilst doing nothing to really benefit the union members, except for the bad apple drunks and druggies who make the news and still get to keep their jobs because they belong to the Union. On one hand Unions are the root cause of everything that is wrong with this country, but on the other hand, we would all still be making a dollar a day, working 16 hour days without any benefits if it weren't for unions. And if you think this isn't true, just ask the Mexicans, Indians, Vietnamese, and Chinese, etc who are now doing all of the jobs that were too costly to perform in the USA any more.

I haven't really looked into this, so I might be wrong, but as I understand it the law in Michigan would only apply to public sector jobs and only states that non-union members wouldn't have to pay union dues. If I'm right about that (too lazy to do research right now) how could anyone (except union bosses who stand to lose out on dues) be opposed to such a law? |

A dollar a day wage isn't bad if the cost of living is sixty cents a day. |

Some of those so-called low-paying jobs don't require much skill at all and why should companies pay a high premium for these jobs? Some of those outsourced people are now making similar amounts of money to what the American workers are making, but it's cheaper to live there, so why not? It gives those countries some capital to develop their economies, while providing America with affordable, cheap products. Imagine if they made all that stuff in the States, it would cost way too much to buy and some products would become unaffordable for many.

Scott, I've been looking at some YT vids and Google street views of Detroit....geezus christ! I was stunned at the level and scope of the decay....I know all cities have some of this, and I"m not ripping Michigan, but I was just really saddened by this. I hope there is something that can be done for this city to help bring it back, sincerely.
