Lands End fits the description I think. I guess the rest of the band members aren't virtuosos but the drummer in particular has given some sometimes cringe worthy performances. I still love the band though:
I actually love this song to, the drums are just a little off at times
I was a big Lands End fan myself and I'm sad that they now seem to be defunct. However, I thought Levallee did a fine job as their drummer. He was no virtuoso, but I thought he was good for what the band were doing.
I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

Here's a twist... How about a band that doesn't measure up to their drummer? At least that's what I initially thought of Mastodon.

Hinds is pretty awesome.
I think Pelican are one of the better post-rock/metal bands, but their drummer is so boring. He should take a few lessons from the drummer in Russian Circles for un-borifying boring music.

I was careful to include the word "initially" to my Mastodon statement. At first I was so enamored with Dailor's superb dexterity that I was trying to tune out everything around him. The critisims I had with the other players in the band had melted away once I started to dig deeper into their music, to where now the only nagging element of their songs is the vocals.
One bands that comes to my head is Isis. Love their stuff, but the drumming is so boring. Now I realize they're a atmospheric and minimalistic, so the drums aren't really supposed to a be a focal point, but it just sounds so weak and uninspired to me. It's rather disappointing to listen to.

I think they're both great players. I think they've matured quite a bit since the early albums too.

Phil Collins- he screwed up LZ at Band Aid & was generally the Ringo of the 80's !
Nothing great or good about his drumming
A decent actor & singer though!

I acutally like Phills drumming very much, specially on the Genesis live songs (the ones from Gabriel's era).

I think you've got it upside down...

Number one on my list is Bev Bevan of The Move and ELO. I don't mind a drummer that is less than technically gifted if his style fits perfectly with the music the band is making (Keith Moon, for example) but Bev was just plain bad all the time.
