Gaps aren't embarrassing, gaps are happy hunting grounds.

I would much rather have one album each by twenty different bands than have twenty albums by any one band.  There are over eight thoussand bands and artists listed on PA.  If I had only one album each by 10% of those artists, (and nothing by the other 90%) I'd have over 800 albums.  Who needs over 100 Frank Zappa albums? Who over 100 Tangerine Dream albums?  (and if you do, ask yourself how often you'll ever listen to them all)

I've been collecting music for a long time, and although I've experienced many "gaps" over the years, I have tried to make a point to fill a lot of them, so there aren't too many left.

- I'm still missing the boat with Le Orme, having not heard a note of their music yet (but I will, I promise).

- I've also really been negligent about following Univers Zero (and I'm on the friggin' RIO team!), I have two of their albums and that's it.  They've just never seriously clicked with me.

- Over the past year I've really gotten to like Klaus Schulze, and have listened to quite a few albums on Youtube, but so far I have not purchased any albums yet.  That's a gap I'd love to fill soon.

- I've bought virtually everything by Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson solo so far, except for Insurgentes - I need to do that eventually too.  I've heard bits of it and it seems alright.

Any Rush other than Exit Stage Left, 2112 & Moving Pictures
Any Porcupine Tree before In Absentia
Any Dream Theater
Any Opeth
Any Mars Volta
Any Marillion
Any BBT
Any IQ

The only album I think you're really missing out on is ELP's debut. Some amazing classical piano on that.

My collection is a combination...for some things (Crimson & Zappa) I have 30+ albums, but for other things (like RPI) the collection is wide but not deep.

I must say, The Yes Album is great, even better than Fragile in my opinion.

Ya, I had it on vinyl but never replaced it when I transitioned to CD.  Also, I prefer the live versions of "The Yes Album" tracks on "Yessongs" and could never bring myself to buy it just to have "A Venture" Wink

Apart from a Best Of by Gentle Giant, nothing else of them in my collection. Embarrassing? No, I just wasn't really that motivated by what I heard to get more ...

I never picked up The Yes Album. Not because I never liked it but because it's one of those albums one hears constantly on the radio. Kind of like Dark Side of the Moon. Another of which I don't own for exactly the same reason. Anyway, I own Yessongs which has a fair number of the same tracks on it.

I have every Rush album on cassette from Fly By Night to Counterparts, except I'm missing Caress of Steel and A Farewell to Kings >.<

I bought them all as a package but it was missing those two and I just haven't got around to getting them.

Hi,

I don't collect albums or cd's or whatever. Thus, it's hard to say if I have gaps in my collection ... I have what I need to have and what has made itself to me to be heard, and I accept that.

My taste varies now and then, however, I am not sure I can count in one hand the number of albums that I am missing or that I would like to get ... though there are several things I would like to get that were in my friends show, and I have no idea what/who they were!

All in all ... no gaps ... not missing a lot after "Relayer" in my book and I have them since the 1st album, for example.

Not missing anything after Trick of the Tail, and I have it all back to the first, for example.

About the only gap, was that I have always loved the 15 versions of Echoes, 15 versions of Atom Heart Mother, 15 versions of Set the Control for the Heart of the Sun, 15 versions of Astronomy Domine ... and you will never hear them! Or the original DSOTM that had Syd Barrett on top of all those priests sermonizing ... I actually thought that was better than what made it later, that became so popular, but was much more vague and vapid and meaningless, than the original ... that was more pointed and such!

Well, at least PF finally released the original version of the space rocker! But prog'ists don't like it! Too bad! I saw and heard it twice, and then heard it again in its new version at Anaheim Stadium! Eat your heart out!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!
