For years Bacamarte has held a position on the top 100. Dun used to be there also but has fell out. Pick and discuss.

Both of these albums deserve huge recognition - one for it's unique take on the French teutonic brand and the other for brightening up the 80s' classic prog rock skies with it's breathtaking Brazilian driven symph prog (even if it was recorded in the late 70s ahem...)
Not sure which one to vote for though.

A no-brainer for me, actually, Eros. I discovered both about the same time around the time I joined PA, and have loved both, but Eros is the one that I kept on coming back to (for me there's more textures and delicious contrast? to the album to keep on returning to). And as for the immediate stand-out tracks for me from each album, Arrakis beats Último Entardecer by a long shot (that said, Bacamarte is a lovely album). I actually haven't spun Bacamarte in several years. I was arguing why I thought Deopis do Fim special with a fellow PAer (Prog Jester as I recall), while he pointed out the flaws, and somehow his analysis totally clicked with me/ rung a bell, and it was like I realised that I had indeed been liking it too much. Now I've also argued with people about Eros, as I thought it was great, but none of their criticisms stuck with me.

I think they are both 5 stars albums, but Dun is just my preferred style, and one of the best albums I've ever heard, seriously!
I mean their performance and playing is downright impressive, Arrakis is jaw dropping. |

Dun really clicked with me the last time I heard it not so long ago so that's my vote.

I've said this before but I actually like the earlier versions of these songs that are the bonus tracks.

You know John, although I haven't played those bonus tracks in a while, when I heard them on the most recent reissue of the album that I bought, I remember at the time thinking they were just as good an album in their own right! Going to them them a play again soon now! |

The originals had sax on them which was absent on the later final recording, plus the bass is fuzzed out on the early ones and less vibes too. That Magma influence is prominant as well on the original songs. Just my taste of course but I prefer the early ones.

They are demos and i'm sure i'm in the minority with my feelings about them. Cool to hear how they changed though.

When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light. Through the skies, his white horse flies. To find a land beyond the night. |
