Topic: The Dzyan Poll Posted: June 29 2014 at 12:55 |
I have all of Dzyan's recorded output, and love passionately all of their music, so picking a favorite single recording has not been easy for me. For years, it was Time Machine, recorded and released in '73, but in the final analysis, for me, it is 1974's Electric Silence, their final opus. On that album, Dzyan are their most experimental and adventuresome, merging some jazz rock textures and complex playing from the record's guitar, bass and drum work, that is highlighted by Peter Giger's flowery, multi-faceted percussion style, with out of this world ethnic forays from Eddy Marron's sitar, and then Reinhard Karwatky's various synthesisers added to the mix, as well, making for a very uncommon and totally unique sonic wall. No other recording by anybody really achieves what Electric Silence does. It is music as if from another world. I have presented the albums chronologically from when recorded, with Mandala, released most recently, but recorded in '72, in second place. What is your ultimate Dzyan trip?

Didn't even know about the existance of that Mandala-album so I probably shouldn't vote. But Electric Silence is my favorite out of the three I know.

It's a long way from "Dzyan" to "Electric Silence". What a band ! Vote four.

Electric Silence is probably the "ultimate Dzyan trip", but Time Machine is arguably a stronger album, and gets my vote. On the other hand I've only been digesting the music of this great band for maybe a year or so now: hardly long enough to settle on a final opinion..

For me Time Machine and Electric Silence are fairly even but I do enjoy Time machine more so that's where my vote went.

I still couldn't decide, so I went with Time Machine as it has fewer votes
