Now if this had been that awful Scissor Sisters' cover of Comfortably Numb(they should've been hanged, drawn and quartered for that abomination), then you might just have gotten away with this poll, but then again I think you know how this is going to turn out eh?
I love Purple Rain, don't get me wrong - probably the perfect track for a slow dance, a smooch and a quick bra check, but we're talking Comfortably Numb here..... Both songs are actually pretty similarly constructed with the two verses, chorus, bridge and then you have that guitar solo at the end, but for me there is no contest - whatsoever.

I may just prefer When Doves Cry to Purple Rain. I think it was a small stroke of genius that he "neglected" to include the bass track, and it's still funky as hell.

Well no contest here really, I usually don't enjoy Prince so much, except for this stellar performance.
http://pann.nate.com/video/208491903 I love it when he unleashes his Hendrix influence. |

Me too. Voted Comfortably Numb BTW. I like Prince especially for his musical innovation (for instance the percussion to When Doves Cry). Gilmour on the other hand is one of my favourite guitar players. On Comfortably Numb he does, once again, a good job, although I prefer his solo on Another Brick In The Wall.

The truth is I think a lot of Pink Floyd's music is overrated. I think there's a big drop in the quality of their albums after Dark Side of the Moon. I'd rather listen to Prince, to be perfectly honest. However, Comfortably Numb is one of their best songs, on an album that is filled with mostly mediocre ones.

Never been a fan of The Artist Formerly Known As the One Who Poured Purple Rain on Us, despite his undeniable talents. Floyd for me.

I voted both because I cannot discredit Purple Rain too.

Both are brilliant. Would've voted Comfortably Numb if I hadn't seen a video of a young Bulgarian girl playing Purple Rain flawlessly on FB yesterday evening, reminding me of how good that track is. Now I can only vote 'both'.

Did anyone catch Prince on Saturday Night Live (I tape it just for the music).....he blew the room away! He's a serious motherhumper of a guitar player. That said, Run Like Hell and Numb are my only two reason for ever digging out the Wall (oh, and that Dirty Woman song).
