I plan on doing each decade :]
What are people's thoughts on Caravan's debut? Fantastic band of course, but does everyone think they became "the band" after this record?

They were pretty well put together to start with, and the masterfullness of If I Could Do It All Over Again and For Girls Who Grow Plump In The Night was just building off of the as such excellent debut. Beautiful record.

Perfect title for the thread. Man, I need to go back and listen to more 60's stuff, but I'm absolutely in love with these:
- Chicago Transit Authority - s/t - Led Zep - I - King Crimson - In the Court Can and Hendrix were also really strong contenders.

Finally appreciation for my brilliant thread title. Like no other! ![]() Also i'm surprised by the lack of Monster Movie on lists. Come on people, every track on that is a hit. Doesn't feel at all as a debut effort.

^ Maybe because it almost wasn't.
![]() Delay's itself pretty good, though, so they clearly had something going for them.

Hi, This is difficult. When I went from Madison (WI) to Santa Barbara (CA) in 1971, I took with me, in my bag, ten albums, which did not amuse my mom, but these were too personal and important for me. Included were Jimi's Are You Experienced, Big Brother and the Holding Company's Cheap Thrills, Led Zeppelin 1, The Doors, and Iron Butterfly's In a Gadda da Vida.
These were the "formative" albums for my tastes. The next year I met up with the European stuff a lot better and eventually got into them full blast by 1974, since, by that time Jimi and Janis were gone, and a lot of the emotional strength that brought them to us, was totally gone and already was being replaced by commercial success. Other albums that should be listed here would be It's a Beautiful Day (1st), Moody Blues's Days of Future Passed which deserves a mention as one of the best albums ever, CTA (Chicago 1) which was special for me, since I almost had my head beatup in Chicago, and KC's first. I came across KC's first album and Fairport Convention on the same day in Madison at a party, but while FC clicked, the KC album had not as yet, although I had heard "Epitath" and knew that it was written by a poet, not a rock star! to me, this was IMPORTANT, because it made the rock music lyrics more valuable all around, however, this is not a distinction that others share these days, and almost anything is a "poem" these days, including the shape of ... Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

In the Court of the Crimson King
The Doors Chicago Transit Authority (I don't think Days of Future Passed was a debut, otherwise that'd be in there.)
