Weird bands to compare, but personally, Tortoise. I saw them in DC a few weeks ago, and they SLAYED.

PoS by million miles. In fact I don't know Tortoise, but after listening to that sample I've found 6 minutes of my life were wasted by meaningless music (I've waited till the end only to find if it's as bad as the start and you know what? It was worse :-/ ). Sometimes it can happen a new music could arise a new interest but this is really not the case. It's evident not every kind of music is appropriate for me ;-)

Tortoise's first four albums are all among the essentials of modern, experimental rock and almost too musically interesting to be branded and lumped together with the often simplistic and formulaic bands of Post-Rock.
POS makes me cringe.

Tortoise is one of my particular favourite bands in the Post Rock camp, whereas I don't care for what I've heard of Pain of Salvation (I haven't found much to like in the Progressive Metal category).

Tortoise's excellence is contained in to few albums.
