I third this suggestion. Amazing... Anybody who likes neoclassical Post Rock might like Taiwan's 4/5 female band (female leader/songwriter) CICADA. (Not the same as the wonderful Greek Prog Folk band Ciccada from AltrOck. Only one "c".) One of my favorite bands of this decade.

I have their first and third albums and IMHO they sound a bit weird too, in fact they seem to fall into the general category of Wyrd Folk. Folkies tend to be pretty tolerant though so I can sort of dig them. |

Including the very first one, Fear & Anxiety? If so, nice! If you can find it, Across the World is a fantastic live CD that features Ars Nova's unique drums & double-keyboards formation. One of their very best releases. |

I really wish they had produced an official studio recording; their one live compilation is genuinely quite good, awful recording quality aside. While neither are strictly prog, I'll nominate The Raincoats and Electrelane. The former revolutionized post-punk (although nobody noticed) while the latter pushed the impulsive drive of Neu! and Stereolab to the next level.

To call it prog is stretching a point rather too far, but can't resist plugging Nerija here, an excellent all-femaie British jazz band who do rake in influences from other genres too:

They were a female prog band, listed here on the archives under Prog Folk. I don't think they're active anymore, mostly acoustic and kind of brooding music but at least mildly interesting.

I always thought the band The Roches qualified....they featured Bob Fripp and Tony Levin on recordings.
