Regarded as Renaissance's first true "classic" album, Turn Of The Cards boasts three epic songs including "Mother Russia" and perhaps the group's best ballad "I Think of You" along with the dark foreboding "Black Flame", which seems to be favorite among PA members. What say you about Turn Of The Cards?

Probably my second favorite Renaissance album behind Scheherazade. Black Flame & Mother Russia are amazing. Also love Running Hard with John Tout's piano intro.

Early in my Renaissance exploration days, was my favourite album of theirs. But that was when I only loved Ashes, Cards and Scheherazade.  It's gone down quite a bit in my favourites but I probably still like it more than Ashes. Things I don't understand was, I guess, the last songwriting contribution of McCarty to the mkii band and one of my favourites of theirs, certainly my favourite from the album.  Yeah, Black Flame too.  Running Hard, again prefer the live versions.  Not a bad track again on this album, solid all the way through with plenty of high points as well. My one complaint would be that it's their most 'serious' and kinda dark and melancholic all the way through.  Even Novella had Midas Man.  Things I don't understand is the sunniest track on here and it's still not playful in the way Midas Man is.

A bit of a digression. I always liked the way that Ashes could flow effortlessly into Turn Of The Cards and how Scheherazade can easily follow Turn Of The Cards. All are a bit on the serious side to me, so perhaps that helps.

Great album, no weak tracks. Running Hard is my favourite.

Wonderful album - Not a weak track on it!

Yes - excellent album. Mother Russia and Running Hard are up there among their very best tunes. The only track I don't think quite works is the cover tune "Cold is Being" - I find it interrupts the otherwise excellent flow - but that's probably just me.

So far my favourite from them, though I still have to know more of them besides the big 3 albums (and Carnegie Hall), yet, somehow I don't think the albums I still have to get will be able to top these 3 albums.

Beyond the big three albums (Scheherazade, Turn of the Cards & Ashes are Burning), A Song for all Seasons is also very good. Prologue & Novella have good moments , but aren't as strong as these four IMO.
