Hi Guys,

Just came across this new band from India - L. Shankar. What is the genre in your opinion?

Not quite new ... Shankar has albums going back to 1975 and he also has done material for many films in that time, and is a very well known musician.

I think, his best work is the stuff he has with ECM way back when, which was more interesting to my ears, but I have not heard him for the past 10 ... so I can not evaluate it as well as I would like.

One moment that I really like ... to give you an idea what kind of musician this guy is, it was one of those mega concerts and he is guesting with Bruce Springsteen, and while warming up, Bruce stops and asks him ... what key you in, man? ... and Shankar replies ... you no worry what key ... you just play and I join in for you!

You and I probably wish that one third of all these rock/prog/bs stars could do half that much in music!!!!

Yes, I've seen Shankar play with a few contemporary pop and rock artists with this double neck violin. He's awesome. He played on one of my favorite albums, Gabriel's Last Temptation Of Christ soundtrack but I'm not familiar with his solo work. But I will check it out!

Take a look at the listing of stuff he has on that one .... wickid site that we don't like to send folks to!

It is impressive ... and then some. And I think, have to look at it again, but the advent of his up and coming music, also helped the likes of Sheila Chandra come around, although she was much close to a lot of English folks, than Shankar was, whose outlet for his ability may have been the folks at ECM ... is how I look at it, but am not sure it is quite like that!

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...
