How weird, Sam. I picked this up about a fortnight ago for the first time and could barely stomach it. It sounded very much like Queen to me, who I used to dig a lot when I was younger as you know, but I know you never liked them, which is why I'm surprised to find you like this one!
Sorry I didn't see your post. It's one of my all time favourites although I understand why some would loathe it. I can't see any relation with Queen though, in any way.

Boris | Akuma No Uta — haven’t listened to Boris in years. This is one of their better ones, in that it shows all their early stylistic range (drone metal, Melvins-y punk thrash, and stoner rock jamming) in a concise package. A good intro to them. I’m not as much into their recent stuff but maybe I’ll revisit now.

Boredoms | Seadrum/House of Sun — one track is a 20 minute speedy rolling drum/piano/voice journey, the other is a 20 minute drumless psychedelic drone with sitar. Far out.

Butthole Surfers | Rembrandt Pussyhorse — their most subdued and psychedelic album, and yes, weird.

Flipper | Love — their 2nd and more successful attempt at a reunion album. Originally they had 2 main vocalists, each would play bass on the songs which the other sang lead. One of these guys (Will Shatter) died an early death in the 80s so Krist Novoselic is handling the bass here while the other singer guy handles all the vocals. It’s good as reunion albums go.

Beach Boys | Holland - personal favorite Beach Boys album. Full disclosure: I immersed into all the Beach Boys albums more or less at the same time (though I had been unsuccessfully trying to enjoy Pet Sounds and Smile for several years already) and this one and the few albums before it really appeal to me the most. I do appreciate the 60s stuff a lot more now too. Heck even the mid to late 70s stuff.

Intersystems | Peachy — late 60s experimental electronic collages with thought provoking spoken word narratives

Michael Gira | Drainland - mid 90s solo album from Swans guy. Solid. Not a frequent listen but a nice companion to contemporary Swans and not too similar to either that or his other projects at the time.

Faust | Something Dirty — late Faust. Good experimental rock by some old pros. Not as far out as their early stuff but true to the spirit of their classic-era sound.

Holland was the one that most jumped out at me, too, on my recent ride.

Yeah, it's lovely, Jim! I picked it up a few months back and didn't show much excitement towards it. But repeated listens more recently made me think it was much better than I remembered, and your own praising review of it only sweetened the deal and got it even further over the line!

That Cilio album is like a long daydream...beyond music.  It's atmosphere. Quite a mix of albums there!Big smile

I’ve gotten some mileage out of that Albergo Intergalattico Spaziale album as well. And that Genesis album is pretty sweet. Shoulda been a big hit. 😂
