Hi all,
I haven't listened to prog regularly for about 5 years, but now I'm looking for recommendations of new artists I've probably missed during that time. Some old favorites I've been putting on again: Cult of Luna, Steven Wilson, and Ulver Some old favorites I'm not listening to much, but still appreciate: Riverside, Pain of Salvation, Gazpacho, Marillion, Pink Floyd, IQ, Agalloch, Phidaeux, Anathema I've been listening to a lot of dark synthwave recently (Perturbator, Raydar). Has that wormed it's way into the prog scene yet? I appreciate any suggestions you all might have! |

Prog has been quarantined from the rest of the world of music because it's become too infectious ![]() You'll need the proper paperwork to continue listening ![]() |

Most artists that you have listed have made great new albums. Check out their newer album reviews on PA.

Hi there!
The two greatest albums of the past 5 years are Wobblers From Silence to Somewhere and All Traps on Earths A Drop of Light, they appear high in our top 100 as well so I recommend those two for sure!

^Decent albums. Both 4 stars for me. Why should PA's opinion matter? I prefer the bands I mentioned.

It's been pretty bad the past 5 years, so bad people are trying to let the Beatles worm their way into the prog scene.....Yea I know bad, right! |

^ Seemed obvious to me (my automatic assumption) that Slartibartfast was referring to the OP (DreaminSong) for not listening to prog regularly for about 5 years, rather than referring to your post two posts up from his.
EDIT: to the OP, as for Synthwave, not necessarily dark synthwave, I did a topic on that In General Music Discussions. I don't know how many of that ilk have found their way into Prog Archives, but I know of one called VOYAG3R, but only one of the albums has been added to PA. https://voyag3r.bandcamp.com/ In Synthwave, my favourite may be Com Truise. Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

We don't appear to have much in common in prog tastes but here's a few that have grabbed my attention over the last five years, some may have started earlier than 5 years ago but from my perspective started getting noticed in that window

The Waste of Space Orchestra - Syntheosis is a side project of 2 Finnish metal bands . Very weird but very brilliant. I don't think Bent Knee have been mentioned ( I have'nt looked at all the posts in detail) but they are a truly brilliant band and highly recommended if you like female vocals. I would also second Big Big Train ( but they've been around now for a while so they don't feel that new!) Everything from The Underfall Yard is great but I like Folklore the most.
