Even on a laptop it makes no sense to not at least give you the option. Some older laptops have a slot where you can fit pretty much any type of drive or an extra battery or whatever. Doesn't even really add to the weight if you just leave it empty.

I agree. It seems the industry is thinking we no longer use CDs or DVDs and is moving more toward cloud-based services which makes them more money because to get any reasonable amount of space requires a subscription.
