Without checking, I would have thought you were talking about Katherine Helmond who was in Brazil and Soap. She was also lovely in Gilliam's Time Bandits.

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I observed before. It can be much like that with music for me; immersed in experiencing the moment.

Blade Runner is my favourite film although Brazil is also well up there. The latter actually has a much better ending and the stuff with De Niro suddenly dropping into the apartment is a lot of fun. Great actors throughout in fact including the wonderful Francis Conroy who is probably best known for playing the batty mother in Soap but has also popped up recently in Castle Rock.

the audience in the pre-release viewing was confused by the ending, so the producer had it cut out.

for me this ending is clear: the two are not the only people abducted by the ants, who conduct experiments on the abductees just like humans do on ants.

the cut version ends with "they wanted - us" and the two embracing

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (the 1956 version)
Metropolis
Cloud Atlas
Zardoz
12 Monkeys
Alphaville
Welt am Draht (World on a Wire)

and a movie that is not really dystopian but kind of "dystopia in the making": Phase IV. it is a bit unclear what the ants want, but perhaps they want to take over the earth and need 2 humans for close study of the future enemy

Also like Soylent Green. ZPG is another of a similar ilk I like.
And Alphaville.
All great movies! I think that I really like this era of sci fi/fantasy because it's all a bit darker than the fairytale tone set by Star Wars that followed them. Look at "Box" the Freezer Man of Logan's Run with the voice of Roscoe Lee Browne. Really chilling, with no pun intended.

Yes, agree about the pre Star Wars time. Look at Lucas himself and compare Star Wars to one I forgot to mention, THX-1138.

By the way, dystopias is it be of my favourite subject matters in film and novels. Its more down to Earth and I can connect with it much more than the Star Wars universe. I commonly genuinely care and empathise with the characters. Something like Logan's Run is dark, but it has hope too. I think that film is very underrated by many.

THX is very good also and underrated. I also like the Wicker Man form that era. Not strictly dystopian, but it still has an altered society, and altered morals.

Together with The Matrix (1999), Planet of the Apes (1968) also portrays a really scary dystopian world; albeit very differently.

In the first, you cannot even hate your enemies. They are machines. Also you have nobody else but your race/ancestors to blame for your situation, as "you" created those machines and the AI. The worst thing is; the people, albeit except for the "awakened ones", are not even aware that the machines are farming them. The whole situation is the epitome of extreme terribility!

In the latter, being the prisoners of the apes... Imagine that an intelligent and skilled aquatic alien race put you in a terrarium, for their amusement and pleasure... I think we all should be kind to animals... So that we can have valid reasons for blaming our probable prospective alien masters! LOL

Talking about 12 Monkeys (great film indeed!), the short film by Chris Marker upon which it is based, La Jetée (The Pier), is actually quite brilliant!

The razamataz is a pain in the bum
