Have you ever seen a pre-release review from anything related to the Neal Morse/Mike Portnoy camp that hasn't been overly positive and borderline circlejerky though? Just for it to come out and be another Neal Morse album?

I love Spock's Beard with Morse but of all the stuff he's done since then I haven't really found much that really grabs me.

After a few more listens, it's good but I definitely like Flamethrower better. I just connect more with the songs on that album than Meat Mallet

I've not really listened to much new prog, though I do really enjoy Steve Hackett's new classical guitar album.
Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

Nice list Hugues, agree on a lot, will check out others. Those Thollot's good? I've kinda skipped passed them so far.

my favorite prog album of 2021 (so far)is Needlepoint's. I doubt anything would top that. Now I sound pessimistic. LOL

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

I think a lot of people will like the new NMB (Neal Morse Band.)

It's a double album but NOT a concept album. The first disc (Innocence) has the shorter songs and disc two (Danger) is comprised of two long epics. And they are both great.

I was really nervous about this one. Being a huge XTC fan, the absence of Dave Gregory was concerning. I was worried over nothing - it's fantastic!!!

It must be that time of the year, as many people seem to be posting their lists of their favourite albums from the year so far. So I thought would give it a go. My first attempt at coming up with a short list had almost 70 albums on it….. (sigh)

I kept cutting down until I got to 50 which was relatively easy, and then down to 30, which was harder. But I really struggled to turn that 30 into 25. Eventually I managed, and just for the fuller picture, here in alphabetical order are the top 25, and also the next 25.

[list omitted for space]

I’ve listened to not quite 200 releases from 2021 so far, and I still haven’t scratched the surface, as I seem to have listened to hardly any of the albums featuring in the lists for the year so far I’ve seen in the last couple of weeks!

You are one of the few that can produce a big list that is 80-90% artists I have never heard of.
I have not decided yet if they fit our scope well enough to bring up for suggestion, but that Squid album is a real corker.

Squid, Black Midi and Black Country, New Road are three quite impressive young British bands who are exploring similar sounds from different directions.

If they are any other bands you’re interested, almost every one of those in my list have Bandcamp pages, and quite a few are Name Your Price. Many of them I have reviewed for TPA, and a few I am thinking of suggesting for inclusion in PA.

Haven't given much attention to the year's stuff yet but the new black midi, mono, Monobody, Ciccada, Beautiful Bedlam, and Unaka Prong releases are starting to get me excited.
