When six out of Bruford Freaks' top seven are in my top seven?
Perhaps,  I should check out the one that is not?

Hi,

I'm still listening, and not ready to choose anything at all.

I'm leaving behind any listing that has been around before, in a sort of idea that I will find some newer things. I'm kinda tired of the old names continually showing up -- NOT THAT THEY ARE NOT GOOD -- but in many ways, I think it lowers the ability of new folks to stand out and have a chance to be heard. Thus, my listing will not include any "known" names per se, on purpose.

We need new music ... the listing of threads simply pushing old stuff as better needs to be shown that there is better, and different, new music that deserves the discussion and the ear in my book.

So, here's to the new year as well and to newer artists!

Two on the list already for me ... AGUSA and RACHEL FLOWERS and MONO.

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

My 2021 favourite still (now having heard quite a few more) is Splinters Vol. I by Battlestations, and although I'm used to my taste not being mainstream, I am somewhat bewildered by not seeing this mentioned by anyone else, and be it under honorary mentions below rank 20.

I'll check it out, I have Vixit and we generally agree on a lot musically. I can only say I must have missed it amongst the huge amount of music I listened to last year.

Here's my top 4 list! The order doesn't matter cause I enjoyed each record equally as much. To tell you the truth, I didn't listen to a lot of what was coming out recently in 2021, so that may be why my list is so short.

Norwegian:
1. Shamblemaths
2. Caligonaut
3. Jordsjø
4. Needlepoint

Non-Norwegian:
1. Transatlantic (extended version)
2. HFMC
3. NMB
4. Mobius Strip

^ Great idea, Norway and the rest.
Shamblemaths
Monarch Trail
NichelOdeon/ InSonar

All I got, in fact I've been so out of tune I need to do some catching up with my 2018-2022 albums. Ordering new music for the first time in like 5 years and I feel like a kid again. I have been aware of the albums released and opinions stated I just need to pick and choose and not buy 50 a year like the old days. Can't afford that anymore and I'm not into streaming I need to hold that recording in my hands and read the liner notes. Man I'm old.

apparently there is a Volume Two as well!

There is almost too much to get through

I've just made a list of artists that released albums in 2021 that I need to check out
Motorpsycho
Clive Nolan
Krokofant (new band to me but will give them a go , maybe similar to Elephant 9)
Isobar (their debut was great)
Cyan
Isildurs Bane
Robert Reed
Caligonaut
Lee Abraham
Mostly Autumn
Kayo Dot

also I've only listened to a few tracks off Mastodon's latest but that sounds interesting so far

Norway for the win!!!

Caligonaut
Needlepoint
Jordsjo
Tusmorke
Meer
Motorpsycho
Shamblemaths
Kerrs Pink

That country definitely won 2021 and Wobbler didn't even release an album...
