Formed in 2015, Stone Healer is the progressive black metal project of American brothers Dave and Matt Kaminsky. Based in Asheville, North Carolina (formerly Mansfield, Connecticut) the band began as Dave's brainchild and a direct successor to his prior group Autolatry, playing a fusion of dissonant death and black metal with grunge and hard rock influences. The project's lyrics are devoted to "introspection, self-discovery, and self-healing," dealing with Kaminsky's spiritual struggles during periods of tribulation.

Stone Healer's debut EP, He Who Rides Immolated Horses, was self-released in 2015, with Dave handling guitar and bass duties and his brother and lifelong collaborator Matt featured as a guest drummer and co-lyricist, with additional contributions from vocalists Lindsay Vitola and Sean Hart (formerly of Autolatry and currently in Alcyone). Dave recruited Matt into Stone Healer as a permanent member during the six-year stretch in which the brothers wrote and refined their first full-length, Conquistador, independently released in 2021. Dave describes the album as "a cathartic retelling of my own spiritual extortion, in which the themes of allowance, forgiveness, letting go, and mistaken divinity play central roles."

Stone Healer are a perfect amalgam of their influences, which include Krallice, Ulcerate, Opeth, Gorguts, Alice in Chains, Dødheimsgard, Helheim and Kvelertak.
