But one that you would also call a great movie. By Non-English, I'm referring to the language. I notice by probability that a majority of the movies I like have been foreign, although I don't think very highly of the last 40 years, but if you have suggestions (especially if they're on YouTube), I'll try to watch them, and if you need any, I'll be happy to give you some. "Paradise: Love" "Blind" (2013, Norway) |

by 'Unique' I guess you mean more art based movies? I tend to veer towards horror a lot so loved the Spanish films Rec and The Orphanage but neither is particularly unique although they are great movies imo.

Pahanhautoja and Aniara have first sprang to my head. Well, they are not unique per se, but splendid anyways.
I'm tempted to say Shaolin Soccer also but they purloined some stuff from The Matrix... What do I say... Let me think... The most unique non-English movie of the current millennium so far is... Contratiempo perhaps?.. Or... La cara oculta?.. Or else... Travellers & Magicians?.. Hmm... Should I say Calvaire?.. Or... Necronos?.. How about Filantropica?.. Or Koko-di Koko-da?.. Wait, I've found it: Russky kovceg, aka Russian Ark!!! |

^^ You know, your compatriot director, Nuri Bilge Ceylan is one of my favourite working today...

I love Ashgar Farhadi's films, particularly About Elly and The Past. It's for people who love psychology and stories between people more than action, crime, horror, and special effects though. How I Ended This Summer and Leviathan are great Russian films. Ceylan has some good films indeed, for example Once Upon A Time in Anatolia. Some more action and crime is in Cidade de Deus (Brasil).

I saw “Border” (2018)… 7/10… Decent mix of many genres. But, I prefer
dramas… Great dialogue without the cliches, but not weird for weird’s
sake. I don’t need much movement, nor do I need the constant
conflict/solution every 20 minutes. However, I’ve seen some bad movies
in one room, all in real-time. I think they think, “The art-house fans
will eat this sh*t up and once we make our money, let them complain
after its too late”

Unique, but not weird.. Drama. Dialogue driven, character driven.. Never really got outside of that genre, unless its exceptional and just a lever in the movie, not the entire tool. I tend to like movies with a few characters, too, especially just two, so the focus is on them. There's a movie someone recommended, "3 Hearts" but it seems like only 10% is translated :(
