A bit of a subjective list and not a subject I'm massively familar with in truth. I love that Beggars Opera album and when I saw the Egg poll thought I might pitch them against each other but then decided to widen it out a bit. I've left off albums where it would mean duplicating a band so fro instance Atomic Rooster had 2 albums out in 1970. I've gone with the debut as I know it better.

Some great albums listed here.. i'd probably add Rare Bird- As your mind flies by but i love Brian Auger and the Trinity.. he's probably my fave Hammond tickler (as opposed to thrasher..)

Deep Purple's In Rock qualifies here IMO.

I've gone for Beggars Opera here, with Colosseum very close behind...

I know and like most of the selections, and I'm going with Egg over Quatermass.

How about Argent's eponymous debut?

according to PA that's 1969. Great organist though, probably even better than Keith Emerson and Jon Lord on that instrument. BTW I deliberately left off the 'heavy hitters' (ELP and Deep Purple) from the poll as well as Yes - Time And A Word which could also qualify (Tony Kaye is another great of the organ imo)

It's a moot point - Discogs lists it as 1969 but according to Wikipedia it was recorded in 1969 and released in January 1970 - so technically I guess it scrapes in.

Yes and amongst the great keyboard players of the era - Wakeman, Wright, Emerson & Lord - Rod Argent gets a bit overlooked, as does Vince Crane.

Hi,
QUATERMASS for sure .... and it still sounds great, unlike some of the others that sound dated.

It's a solid list, though to be honest, a bit too Anglocentric for my taste.
