Not as many mainstream albums this time around so Big Big Train might be getting some votes. We're looking at 2002, 2012 and 2022. Five albums from each of those years. One vote.
As usual I have some of my favourites along with some of yours. I'm voting In Absentia. |

Three of these would have been in my list: Godspeed You! Black Emperor's Yanqui U.X.O., Swans' The Seer and Motorpsycho's The Death Defying Unicorn. And quite possibly Guillaume Perret & The Electric Epic and Agalloch's The Mantle as well. I also have liked the Nebelnest, Daal, Raum and Echolyn. I figured before you did this that it would be tough for me to choose between The Seer and Yanqui U.X.O should you include both of those. I thought I might go with GY!BE, but right know I'm thinking The Seer. Going with the Seer. This is an excellent poll per my tastes.

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

^ I wanted to include Sigur Ros ( ) for '02 and 5UU's Abandonship to a lesser extent. And Vapor Trails by Rush.
For '12 I took out Magma replacing it with Guillaume Perret. And for '22 I love Birth's Born and One Shot's A James. Also Jordsjo's Jord Sessions and Long Distance Calling's Eraser. That about covers it. |

^ Well, I'm glad you left me some things to work with if I do one too (it is prepared).

I feel that even someone who normally hasn't got the patience for GY!BE slowly caterpillaring (if that term make sense outside of my head) towards those cathartic crescendos - could love Yanqui U.X.O.
Pre-comeback era this album was always considered their weakest effort, but it's just different. Not simply the same one or two (achingly beautiful) themes/melodies that slowly build in intensity anymore. But what I think of as a group of musicians soundweaving themselves from one variation over a theme to the other. More sophisticated I suppose. Which is probably why the typical Post-Rock fan was a little dissapointed (at least at the time of it's release), and the typical progger might enjoy it. And the crescendos? Heavenly as ever if you ask me. So yes I voted for: Godspeed You! Black Emperor- Yanqui U.X.O. But I really like the the four albums underneath here as well. Yes, what has to be Porcupine Trees most commercial-sounding album is my favorite of theirs. It's actually the only one of theirs I could consider listening to. I think Steven Wilson has a talent for writing conventional radio friendly rock. A song like Trains is basically AOR, and could have been a radio staple. Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Voted for Motorpsycho’s finest. Could just as easily have gone with In Absentia, Guillaume Peret’s debut and Nebelnest
