This morning I was walking down Royal Street in New Orleans and heard Tubular Bells blaring out of a little voodoo shop east of Jackson Square. I love this town.

BBC 1 'mockumentary' called 'Meet the Richardsons' (Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont), a married couple (both 'stand-up' comedians from the north of England) as a film crew follows them around their domestic lives.. to a soundtrack entirely made up of bits of the album 'Stand up' by Jethro Tull (see what they did there?Wink).. plus i think there's a few bars of 'Living in the past' and 'Witches promise' stuck in there too..

That was a very fine debut LP!

True it was but a lot of fans (especially those from the first wave) poop on it because it's not prog enough.

Mystery science did it again. In a really awful movie about an evil monkey toy that a guy buried in the ground only to be swallowed by the ensuing chasm, Tom Servo pointed out that you're supposed to dig a pony and shock the monkey.

The Talking Heads (all members) were on Jimmy Fallon tonight. Jerry Harrison mentions the term "prog" as in "16 minute guitar solos." LOL He was trying to make a point about bands trying to go for a more stripped down sound in response to "excess." You could tell Jimmy Fallon probably didn't know what he meant by "prog" but understood the terms "punk and "new wave."

I'm going to count this. I was at a Best Buy near me and saw this in the vinyl record section.

For one thing it's not a "new" kind of music and also this is the wrong place to post this question. Start your own post in the general prog music lounge but not here.

I guess you could start by listening to the whole Images and Words album from Dream Theater, along with Awake if you are at it, both albums with exactly the same line-up. If you like it, you might go for the rest of their discography. Depending on what you have been liking, you might ask for more recommendations along the way.

Air BnB commercial. Unexpected music starts at 17 seconds in. I hope most on here recognize it. Is it prog? Close enough.

Whilst recently watching a re-run episode of 'Out of Town' on TPTV, a country life/lore series made by the now defunct Southern Television and which broadcast from the 60's through to the 80s' presented by Jack Hargreaves, and who should turn up but Greg Lake! Apparently Lake became friends with Hargreaves through a mutual love of fishing.

Endearingly Hargreaves referred to Greg as 'Mr Lake' and described his occupation as 'pop musician'.

Well it's more of a prog anecdote... but as you say this is a thread worth reviving.

Well, beyond the big six or so I'd say it's pretty rare to hear prog in public.
