The 2010's are behind us and the last AotY list of the decade has been compiled. Now I am curiuous what has been the best prog year for you.
Speaking for myself, I find this a hard nut to crack; the only thing I know for sure of that this has been the best prog decade in my book since the 1970's.

Vote away and, if you wish, leave a comment .

This will require some extensive review. Every one of the last 10 years seemed to have an equal number of stinkers and gems with a large collection of "so whats". My favorite album of the decade came from 2017. But again, it will require some review to make a choice.

^ I will also need to review, but my gut says it'll be earlier rather than later.

I don't know. As others already said, it would take a lot of research. There's been a lot of great albums, so it's hard to say for sure.

Last year - 2019 - A huge number of great albums bought (as my bank balance will testify to). Excellent modern prog.

I just had a VERY quick look at my music collection and chose 2011 given the following:
Devin Townsend's Ghost
Discipline's To Shatter All Accord
Phideaux's Snowtorch
Primus' Green Naugahyde
Riverside's Memories In My Head

Not sure this is actually my favorite year in music of the past decade, but it's pretty good.

I have an absolute blank spot on prog for the last decade, lol. I'll have to do some digging. It went by fast, and didn't really feel like it's own decade TBH! What a "grey zone" 2010-2019 was.

The 80s was the best musical decade for me after the 70s. Then in third place I would say the 90s.

It makes me laugh to think of someone in early 1980 asking the same question of the just dead decade. :)

Wow? where would you even begin, not just with proggy stuff but with the early hard rock, the new wave, the punk and the synth, the electronica, the ambient, the experimental.

I could only go by the year my fav album of all time was released rather than musical keypoints. So I'd have to say 1978 - The Kick Inside, and of course Lionheart. Which also happened to be the first real full year of New Wave.

BUT also great albums from
ELO, Japan, Elvis Costello, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Kraftwerk, JM Jarre,Siouxsie and the Banshees, Springsteen, Thin Lizzy, XTC, Neil Young.

2011
Akt - Blemmebeya
Discipline - To Shatter All Accord

2012
Echolyn - s/t
Big Big Train - English Electric (Part One)

2013 (The Year of Many Minor Masterpieces)
Days between Stations - In Extremis

2014
Deluge Grander - Heliotians

2015 (The Year of the Long Awaited Albums)
Anekdoten - Until All the Ghosts Are Gone
Nice Beaver - The Time It Takes
Alejandro Matos - La Potestad

2016
Nine Stones Close - Leaves
Ingranaggi della Valle - Warm Spaced Blue
Shamblemaths - s/t

2017
Big Big Train - Grimspound
Deluge Grander - Oceanarium
Wobbler - From Silence to Somewhere

2018
Oaksenham - Upon All the Living and the Dead
Dean Watson - Track of Days

2019
IZZ - Don't Panic
Jordsjø - Nattfiolen

These are the standout albums of the decade. But I had to plough through my AotY lists to determine what was the best year in my book, examining the lower ranks. I expected 2015 or 2017 to be the best, but in the lower regions there were some excellent albums in 2013 and 2018. I think 2018 had the best prog to offer.

Will give it to 2016. Blackstar (listed here, so prog enough) -  a.P.a.t.T.s superb Fun with Music - Lighthouse by iamthemorning - excellent albums by Swans, Jeremy Flower, Chenille, Tortoise, North Sea Radio Orchestra, Van der Graaf, Shamblemaths, Radian (not listed here but very progressive),...There are top highlights elsewhere (I a Moon, The Seer, Art Zoyd's 2017 box set and Phase V), but the range of good material to my ears is just best in 2016.
