I refuse to call it "Modern Prog", it is all miserable.  It is good compared to the crap the media is feeding, but "modern prog" it just no where NEAR as good as classic prog.

Don't know what you mean by 'modern prog',maybe some examples will help. But if you refer to bands like Flowerking and Spock Beard they are better than say for instance Genesis!

If you're refering to MTV trash like Coheed and Cambria and System of a Down then I agree. By MTV trash I mean "not prog" of course.

Everything changes. Refusing to change will take you exactly were you are now...

No, I am referring to bands like Mars Volta and bands on this website.  I think the crap is what the media is feeing, like coheed an camria and whatever else....but i also find the modern prog people hail on this forum to be crap as well.

Not nearly as bad as the MTV stuff, but it is just no where NEAR as good as the stuff we get from the late 60's and early 70's...i dont think it is terrible for society and for people who like it, but it is terrible when compared to TRUE prog, which lies in the years 30,40 years prior to now!

I disagree with you to the fullest extent. There are plenty of fantastic bands that are "modern," and some of them are at the same level of quality, or, dare I say, are even better than a lot of classic prog bands.

And, again, Coheed and Cambria (System of a Down too, for that matter) is not MTV trash.

Mhhh... ¡but it is called Progressive Rock! ¡It is supossed to progress, grow, expand, change, diversificate, mutate, etc.!

The genre is not dead. I'm sure someone back on those beloved years of yours said the very same thing about early prog. "Mhhh... this thing the young call music is nothing but pure hippie crap!!!...it is not music"

or... ¿you know what? ¡you're right! ¡let's stop right now and keep repeating the same music structure, with the very same old synthesizers forever! ¡let's never change anything again! in fact, let's go right now to every country and burn those so called modern creators and put an end to their crap!

thanks cuncuna

I was trying to quote it like Moatilliata," not in the literal sense" . But if we think like that then there will be no hope for prog in the future.

I would not worry about it. Sigur Rós, Animal Collective, Mogwai, GODSPEED YOU BLACK EMPEROR! (¿are they incredible or what?), Radiohead, AIR (not entirely prog, but very well balanced and influenced). Evolution always wins...

I completely agree. Not every band on this site is prog.
For instance, "Wizards", a ROCK BAND only.
Progressive music, a kind of life.
