The Deep Freeze Mice are overdue to be added. They were by far the most progresssive band of the 80s; I especially recommend their masterpiece "I Love You, Little Bobo, with your Delicate Golden Lions".
Here a link to their (inofficial) homepage, which lists not only them, but also a few related bands of which I have no information:
http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/strebor84/site_dfm.htm

We have all of their albums, and they are highly recommended, provided you are ready for some weird experiences.

Here a link to an unfortunately a bit untypical example of them:“. It is the track "George Bailey Lassoes a Refrigerator" from their album "War, Famine, Death, Pestilence and Miss Timberlake" (1987). Some woman Miss Timberlake must be!

http://cordelia.stayfree.co.uk/Music/Deep%20Freeze%20Mice%20-%20George%20Bailey%20Lassoes%20a%20Refrigerator.mp3

I can unfortunately not add any more sound examples, since we have all their albums on vinyl only and have no idea how to upload examples from vinyls.

Ah, another classic band, mixing that lo-if experiement with amusing humour. I would also be in accordance with this being added; I think Rocktopus would also be for the cause. I have a few of their albums, in the format you are looking for. What genre would be look at them add in? Then I can send some sample to appropriate people.

I think they would best be added under "experimental". And I'd appreciate it a lot if you could upload some of their stuff. They are really missing in the archive.

BaldFriede,
Deep Freeze Mice sounds very interesting. A Jesus and Mary Chain sort of thing? Not bad.
Recording your l.p's to the computer is easy. Just run patch cords from the player/amp and run them into the computers mic- input. You can then record the songs within your media player.
Works for me...and I'm no wizz-kid.LOL

Sadly the term experimental is taken up by the post rock genre and does not "belong"  to us in ZART, so it's either ZART or ART-Rock.
So far listened to War, Famine, Death, Pestilence and Miss Timberlake and there's nothing odd in the music. It's good but not weird at all. Quite plain actually. I will move on to the other 2 albums. Will I find there the more experimental approach?

Try the one with the Cat on the front of it, the name has gone over my head for the moment. But I can remember the last two tracks on that album are two respectivily 20min experiemental pieces which should be of interest.

Now with "I Love You Little Bobo With Your Delicate Golden Lions" and still that 80's sound of guitar (that somehow borrows the sound of guitars you hear in the Clash..., not punk, but the guitar sound and style). It's not overly complex (actually, not complex at all) and not weird whatsoever. Kind of rodinary music actually. My wife and I liked it, as we love this sound, but were not persuaded this to be too progressive. The ending track is indeed a trippy/experimental  part that justifies the claims but it's just one track here even though it's longer than the rest of the album, but other than that, it's rather straight forward rock with some "experimental supplements (such as can be heard with the keyboards and sax)". And I love it. Not too sure yet and will give it more listens (although I am not sure what I'll find more as this is not some complex and unaccessible music, quite the contrary). Aside form that, thanks for averting my attention to this band.

Hmm, calling the Deep Freeze Mice "ordinary". I have no idea what it needs for you to call a music "extraordinary".

the Deep Freeze Mice are definitely a psychedelic band. and since "psychedelic" is a sub-genrč of "prog", they should be included. and they made their excursions into very experimental territory too

Hm..have you heard the album: Saw a ranch house burning last night,  too Avestin? I think you sometimes have a strange approach, or atleast different to mine, in your way of listening or deciding.

When I listen to full Deep Freeze Mice albums, with all their interludes, short, quirky instrumentals, noise bits etc.. it all hangs together as a natural, quite complex whole. I'm all for inclusion. Experimental is probably stretching it a bit, as they have a similar sound to loads of other late 70 early 80's alternative/new wave bands. Art Rock would be just fine with me.

with the Deep Freeze Mice it is not only the music, but also the lyrics why I call them "experimental". their lyrics are highly absurd, full of  wordplay and strange associations. and yes, "I love You Little Bobo with Your Delicate Golden Lions" is their most experimental album

I quite agree with you Avestin. Except I wouldn't call it "good", just dull.Tongue

just curious: how did you manage to listen to them if you never heard them before? Friede and I found only one sound example of them online

Well fr me it's rather "normal" music. If you follow my posts in the forum, you'd see what I refer tio as special and extraordinary.

I agree with what rocktopus said:
"as they have a similar sound to loads of other late 70 early 80's alternative/new wave bands. Art Rock would be just fine with me.  "

Rocktopus, I believe you and I share a common ground in what we lsiten to and love and you probably know what I consider to be special and out there music...
And yes I heard that 24 min. track, as I said before. You can read what I wrote there.

I don't object their inclusion, but I don't see the extraordinary sound that you mention in general.

Don't take it personally Friede Smile It's only different opinions on music.

Well, for me they were one of the very few highlights of the 80s, together with Mother Gong, Inner City Unit, the Ozric Tentacles, Here & Now (who had started in the late 70s) and, with a few cut backs, Random Hold. Else there were not many new exciting bands in the 80s. There were some old heroes who still held the flag; the rest was more or less boring. What everybody else was excited about in the 80s left me cold.

Ah, but there are several very good albums from the 80's which are mentioned from time to time when there is a poll about the 80's where everyone mention the same old usual ones but then there are several people who give some nice suggestions (to which I subscribe).
As for living you cold, I think that this is what happened to Snowdog with Deep Freeze Mice, and I can see why he says it, but I like it.
Anyway, if it's up for art-rock, then the team should be notified.

Good luck.

To be fair, I have only heard the sample posted here. Judging from that only I found it ok only, but not Prog anyway.
