Topic: Prog albums everyone loves but you. ( and Posted: December 13 2007 at 15:24 |
One album I can't seem to enjoy as much as most of everyone else is Godbluff from VDGG. The weird thing is that I really like most of the other stuff from that era (like Still Life). I don't have a clear reason really... all of the songs are listenable and have that distinct VDGG sound, but nothing stands out musically for me. I enjoy Pawn Hearts five times as much as this album but it seems other VDGG fans have a different opinion (because Godbluff is rated higher on this site). Sometimes I think that I should just listen to the album a few more times, but I already gave it a good chance to wow me (about 6-8 listens). Anyways, what are some albums that you all can't seem to get into as much as this site's ratings say you should be? P.S. sorry if there is/was a similar thread but I'm new to posting here .

There are a thousand similar threads, so expect at least a few people to give you a hard time about it.. As for me, ironically, i can never get into Pawn Hearts as much as most people, and i have no clue as to why. And, of course, every Genesis, Yes and ELP album there is. But then again, it's not that i have never gotten into them, i used to like them a lot and stopped..

Modern prog (anything) : Sue me, but I can't stand anything recorded by post-89 "artists." Pink Floyd (anything) : Too noodling and spacey for my taste. It always feels drawn-out and hollow.

King Crimson - Starless and Bible Black
This one comes across as three quarters of pointless noodling to my ears. Incredible that these guys did Red in the same year.

Two come to mind in particular... Foxtrot by Genesis and Misplaced Childhood by Marillion. I don't hate them or anything, just find them quite boring (especially the latter). On the other hand (sorry Memo! ), I love all three TMV albums, and I can't wait for their fourth to be released.

for me...same story... different thread.... Genesis.. all but SEbtP. which I'd put with any prog album.. of any genre ...of any era. The rest though... pfff... highlighted by some good.. even great songs... mixed with completely forgettable.. and sleep inducing music. This is prog... let them boys play....
