Clint Eastwood is da man. I met him for about 15 minutes once on a golf course in Banff Alberta when he was filming Unforgiven.
First Dirty Harry film is my fave.

John Wayne - because he's the Duke - "The Sons Of Katie Eldar"
Harrison Ford - because he's Indiana Jones - "Blade Runner"
Michelle Pfeiffer - just because - "Tequila Sunrise" "Ladyhawke"
Lauren Bacall - because she was still sexy when she was 60 - "Key Largo" "Dark Passage"
Kurt Russell - Because he can act his butt off in any role - "Big Trouble In Little China" "Escape From New York" "Captain Ron" "Breakdown"
Mel Gibson - because he'll try anything and pull it off - "Mad Max" "Hamlet" "Braveheart" "The Patriot" "Signs"
Jimmy Stewart - perhaps the finest actor ever on film - "The Glenn Miller Story" "Vertigo" "Rear Window" "Harvey"
Sigourney Weaver - because she can make any role believeable - "Alien" "Aliens" "Ghostbusters" "The Year Of Living Dangerously"
Meg Ryan - always improves what she is given to work with, and she's cute - "Proof Of Life" "City Of Angels" "The Presidio"
I could go on, but that's a start.

Al Pacino -many great films.GodfatherII is the obvious one but check out Serpico and Carlito's Way not to mention a scenery chewing performance extraordinaire in Devil's Advocate.

Female wise then Jennifer Jason Leigh is underrated. She played one of the victims of Rutger Hauser in The Hitcher as well as playing a memorable pyscho in Single White Female.

Kevin Spacey.
"The Usual Suspects" "American Beauty" "LA Confidential" "Seven"
He's done a lot of great flicks.
Also anything with Steve Buscemi and William Macy. "Fargo" is hilarious!!!!
I went out and bought a wood chipper, "just in case."

I second that. Kevin Spacey is one of my favorite actors. The actors chosen by the Coen brothers are also great (Buscemi, Macy, but also John Goodman, Frances Mc Dorland, John Turturro, ...)
I also realized that Brad Pitt is a very good actor (Seven, Snatch, 12 Monkeys). The guys from the Monty Python are also great. I also found the guy who played in The Pianist amazing.

WHOOP - DE - DOO
Philippe just gave us an empty criticism of another post instead of adding something constructive to the thread.
Not very edifying to creativity anywhere at any time.
So, to be very sure I don't add injury to his insult of the thread and to meet head-on his flatulent critique:
Jean Reno - One of the most interesting screen actors of the last quarter century - Ronin (GREAT movie), The Professional
Sophie Marceau - A fine actress and one of the most beautiful women alive today - Braveheart, A Midsummer Night's Dream

By the way, I thought the title of the thread was "Favorite actor".
Not, "Most politically correct actor to keep Philippe happy".
Guys? Did I miss another memo?   ; Where the heck are my sticky notes?

I'm not usually a fan of actors or directors, but I must say that, among the newest generation of actors, Hugh Jackman has grabbed my attention. He is full of charisma.
Actresses: Let's say Nicole Kidman or Natalie Portman. Although you guys should check a certain spanish beauty named Elena Anaya (who, by the way, will be a vampire in the new Hugh Jackman film 'Van Helsing')

I just watched Pulp Fiction and I think both Samuel L Jackson and John Travolta can be very funny actors! Tarantino is a funny actor too (e.g. in Desperado) and I've always loved the hilarious Jim Carrey. I don't know much about serious actors. Well, Sean Connery and Clint Eastwood are cool...

Colm Meany (no, not for Star Trek)! I love Irish films (English & Scottish too), and Meany has a great face, & can be so funny! Fave Irish (or Brit) movies with Meany: The Committments, The Snapper , The Van, Into the West , & The Englishman Who Went up a Hill, But came Down a Mountain.
Other fave Irish films: The Secret of Roan Inish (magical family entertainment!) and Waking Ned Devine. T'riffic, really t'riffic! (Aw, sure it's MASSIVE!)
I also really like "Mr. Madonna" Guy Richie's movies: Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. Funny & action-packed, great characters and dialogue, fabulous, convoluted plots!
Brit/Irish movies (at least, the ones that make it to here) have far less explosions, gunplay, car chases, gratuitous sex and have better writing, plus actors that can actually act, and look REAL, as opposed to surgically-enhanced and "perfect," as in most Hollywood stuff.
Has anyone seen Big Fish yet? Soundtrack features mucho classic prog! I'm curious!

Johnny Depp, Sean Connery, Kevin Spacey, Mel Gibson, John Travolta.
I've liked all the movies I've seen them in just about.

You've just had a heavy session of electro-shock theray and you're more relaxed then you've been in weeks. All those childhood tramas magically wiped away along with most of your personality.

YES, YES!!!!. I love most of those films, mostly those that follow the Ealing legacy: Waking Ned Devine or The englishman... . I also love 'Local Hero', much in the vein of those two. Two pleasant recent films about this "little english/irish/scottish town and its eccentricities" theme are 'Saving Grace' and 'Calendar Girls'.
I agree Colm Meaney is always welcome in a film. I will write down your recomendation for 'Into the West', a film I haven't seen.
I saw recently 'Big Fish' although I didn't notice the prog content! I liked it a lot. Very moving and imaginative.

For sure Joren! He's great in so many flics, including the hilarious "Mousehunt."
James Wood and Harry Dean Stanton -- also good actors!
Anyone out there like "Repo Man?" (Estevez & Stanton)
In a totally different vein, how about "River's Edge?"
Disturbing! Good Hopper role!
Speaking of Hopper, don't get me started on Blue Velvet: "Daddy's home! Don't look at me Danbo, don't * * look at me!"

It's good to have you here, Paco!
Yeah, "Into the West " is a family classic. Meany's role is a minor one: the film belongs to Gabriel Byrne, and a great Irish cast (including two previously unknown little boys, with little to no prior acting experience). Byrne produced the movie as well. I recommend it to all who aren't afraid of beauty, and a magical film that will make you cry.... and laugh!
Thanks for the impression of Big Fish, Paco! I'm curious about the film (the ad looks surreal), and I'm sure there was Yes - "All Good People" playing in the background.
Has anyone else seen it yet
